Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Carleton Tops Saint Mary's

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's women's soccer team (8-5-2, 2-4-2) fell 3-0 to the No. 23-ranked Carleton Knights (11-1-2, 7-0-1) on the road Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals previous matchup with the Knights was in the MIAC Semi-Final game last season where the Cardinals upset the Knights 1-0 to move onto the Championship game.

The first half began with Carleton applying early pressure, resulting in several shots on goal. The Cardinals managed to counter when Sarah Ringland took a shot in the 30th minute, but it went over just over the top. The Knights broke through the strong defensive efforts in the 17th minute with a goal to take the lead.

The Knights extended their lead in the 37th minute. The half concluded with Carleton leading 2-0, as the Cardinals looked to regroup for the next half.

The second half began with Carleton increasing their lead with an early goal in the 48th minute and it completely changed the game.

The Cardinals responded with attempts from Samantha Munson and Lauryn Skoruppa, but both shots went wide.

Despite several fouls called against the Knights, the visiting team couldn't capitalize on these opportunities.

With hopes of extending their season beyond the regular schedule, the Cardinals must deliver strong performances in their final three games to secure a spot in the top six and qualify for the MIAC Playoffs.

Their next challenge comes on Wednesday, October 22, when they host Saint Benedict—currently one spot ahead of them in the conference—at 4:00 p.m.
