DULUTH, Minn. — On a chilly day by the water, the Saint Mary's men's soccer team (4-9-3, 1-6-1) fell to the College of St. Scholastica (3-11-4, 3-5-1) by one, 2-1, at Kenny Harkins Field, despite recording six shots on goal.
Ryan Horlock in net recorded eight saves during the match, with five in the first half and three in the second.Â
Leonardo Hernandez found the back of the net once for his second goal of the season from teammate Aldo Campagne.Â
Saint Mary's began the first half with an offensive push, marked by several attempts on goal, including Caleb Gilbert's early shot at the sixth minute and subsequent attempts by Cohan Hare and Ivan Ruiz.Â
The Cardinals were unable to capitalize their chances to strike first.Â
It was the Saints that capitalized on their opportunities, breaking the deadlock at the 16th minute. The half concluded with the Saints leading 1-0.
The Cardinals faced a challenging second half as the Saints extended their lead with a goal at the 62 mark, putting them ahead 2-0.
Despite a red card issued to Gabe Le in the 69th minute, the Cardinals responded with determination. Hernandez found the net at the 74th minute narrowing the deficit to 2-1.Â
The Cardinals were unable to keep the late surge going as they fell to the Saints.
The Cardinals look to their final week of regular season action next week with two home games. They first start on Tuesday, October 28 for a 3:30 p.m. game against the Saint John's Johnnies.
