LAKE FOREST, Ill. — A dominant third-period effort lifted the Saint Mary's men's hockey team (1-0-1) to a 4-2 road victory over Lake Forest (0-1-1) on Saturday night, capping off a strong weekend performance.
After falling behind early, the Cardinals found their stride in the second period with goals from Ben Polomsky and Joona Juntunen, the latter on a power play, to grab a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame.Â
From there, Saint Mary's took control, adding insurance tallies from Cooper Smyl and Parker Anderson to seal the win.
Smyl's goal at 15:14 of the third stood as the game-winner, assisted by Jake Cameron and Cole Mickel, while Anderson's empty-netter in the final minute put the game out of reach. Juntunen's late second-period strike proved crucial in shifting momentum after the Cardinals had trailed 1-0 early on.
Between the pipes, Adam Prokop turned aside 30 shots to anchor the defense, limiting Lake Forest to just two power-play goals despite heavy Forester pressure.
It was a successful weekend on the road for the Cardinals as they look ahead to come back home on Friday, November 7, hosting UW-Stout at 7:00 p.m.
