WINONA, Minn. — What a weekend it was and what a week we have ahead! Saint Mary's Athletics delivered a weekend full of energy, emotion, and historic performances, and that momentum carries into another exciting week on campus and beyond.

HISTORIC DAY AT THE MIAC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Saint Mary's University men's and women's cross country teams turned in incredible performances at the MIAC Championships on Saturday at Highland 9 Golf Course. Every Cardinal runner recorded either a season-best or personal-best time in one of the program's strongest showings in recent memory.

Leading the way, Mya Slavin shattered both personal and program records, running a 21:51 to place 4th overall out of 169 competitors — the highest individual finish in Saint Mary's women's cross country history. Her time broke the previous school record by a full minute, making her the new 6K record holder.

The women's team placed 9th overall, marking their best MIAC finish since 2006. Both teams will close out their seasons at the NCAA North Regional, hosted by Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin, on Saturday, November 15.

MEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON SATURDAY

Basketball is back! The Saint Mary's men's basketball team tips off the 2025–26 season on Saturday, November 8, hosting No. 8-ranked Carthage at 4:00 p.m. inside David R. Thies Arena.

Led by first-year head coach Nick Bobb, the youthful Cardinal squad looks to build on last year's experience and start the new season strong. Saturday's contest marks their lone game of the week.

WOMEN'S SOCCER PUNCHES POSTSEASON TICKET

After celebrating 16 graduating seniors on Saturday, the Saint Mary's women's soccer team battled Gustavus Adolphus to a hard-fought 0–0 draw — a result that secured the Cardinals the sixth and final seed in the MIAC Playoffs.

Saint Mary's now embraces its underdog role as they travel to No. 3 St. Olaf on Monday at 2:00 p.m. for a first-round matchup. Tickets and streaming information can be found on the SMU Athletics website.

With the win, they will advance to Thursday playing either Carleton or St. Catherine at 2:00 p.m. with the MIAC Championship on Saturday.

MEN'S SOCCER CLOSES SEASON AT HOME

The Saint Mary's men's soccer team wrapped up its 2025 season with a 3–0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday. The Cardinals finished the year 4-11-3 overall and 1-8-1 in MIAC play under first-year head coach Leo Barbosa, showing flashes of promise and growth throughout the campaign.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY SPLITS SEASON-OPENING WEEKEND

The Saint Mary's women's hockey team opened its 2025–26 season with a road split at Concordia Wisconsin. After falling 3–1 in Friday's opener, the Cardinals bounced back with a 1–0 shutout win on Saturday to cap a successful start.

The team will enjoy a short break before opening conference play at Hamline on Friday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m.

MEN'S HOCKEY STARTS STRONG ON THE ROAD

The Saint Mary's men's hockey team got its season off to a flying start with a successful trip to Lake Forest, Illinois. The Cardinals opened the year with a 5–5 tie that turned into a 2–1 shootout win, then followed up with a 4–2 victory the next night to sweep the weekend.

The team returns home for two key matchups against WIAC opponents, hosting UW-Stout on Friday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m., and UW-Stevens Point on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL CELEBRATES SENIOR NIGHT IN STYLE

Capping off a jam-packed Saturday, the Saint Mary's volleyball team honored its seniors — then celebrated even more with a five-set upset win over third-ranked Bethel, marking the program's first victory over the Royals since 2021.

The Cardinals remain in the hunt for a postseason berth as they prepare for a pivotal week ahead traveling to No. 22 Gustavus on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., followed by the regular-season finale at Augsburg on Saturday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m.
