FOND DU LAC, Wis. — After a schedule change, the Saint Mary's men's basketball team (0–7) couldn't keep pace with Marian University (WI) (2-2) on Sunday, falling 105–73 at Sadoff Gym. The Cardinals found success inside with 38 points in the paint, but Marian's 17 made threes proved too much to overcome.
Saint Mary's opened the game with energy, scoring 20 points in the paint in the first half and jumping out to an early 8–4 lead after a Sawyer Markham layup at 17:15.
But a string of turnovers shifted momentum, allowing the Sabres to push the pace and heat up from beyond the arc. Marian's Derek Lindert sparked the run with multiple threes, helping the Sabres build a 49–39 lead at halftime.
The Sabres kept control in the second half.
Despite steady scoring from Reid Klug, who knocked down a jumper at 18:11 and added a layup midway through the half, the Cardinals struggled to slow the Sabres transition game.
Jackson Harvey battled inside, adding a layup at 17:24 and a tip-in at 4:37, but Marian's fast-break points and continued three-point shooting stretched the deficit.
Klug led the Cardinals with an efficient 21 points going 7-for-8 and adding two steals. Harvey matched him with 21 points on 9-for-12 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds. Reid Weckwerth chipped in 12 points, including a pair of threes, and three assists. Markham ran the offense with six assists, adding six points and four rebounds.
The Cardinals next game will open the conference action.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the Cardinals will head to Carleton College for a 7:00 p.m. tip off!
