Paduano Scores Twice in Home Win Over Oles

WINONA, Minn. - On Friday night, the women's hockey team (15-7) defeated St. Olaf (10-11-1) 3-1 at home, to build on their postseason seeding with a goal in each period! Sophomore Sophia Paduano netted two goals in the win.
 
Sidney Polzin recorded the second goal, which was also the game-winning goal. Celeste Rimstad stood out in goal with 29 saves in her single appearance, allowing only one goal. 
 
Allie Urlaub hit the pipe at 15:44 as the team applied early pressure in the first period.  At 13:22, Sophia Paduano scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Taverie Sherner on a fast break, giving the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. 
 
The Cardinals opened the second period with a strong performance, highlighted by Sidney Polzin's unassisted goal at 18:02, marking her 12th goal of the season and extending their lead to two. 
 
Despite a late goal by St. Olaf's at 00:33, the Cardinals maintained a 2-1 lead going into the final period.
 
The third period featured a strong defensive performance by the Cardinals, with Rimstad making multiple saves to keep the Oles scoreless. The Cardinals had a notable sequence of faceoff wins, with Polzin and Maggie Albers contributing to the effort. 
 
Paduano sealed the game with an empty net goal at 2:03, marking her ninth goal of the season and extending the lead to 3-1 and securing the win.
 
The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow traveling to Northfield to close out the weekend at 4 p.m.
