Men's Basketball Season Comes to an End Today at Home

WINONA, Minn. - It was a bittersweet day for the seniors on the Saint Mary's men's basketball team (6-20) as they wrapped up their playing careers at home. The team fell to the Macalester Scots (9-16) 84-70 in the season finale on Saturday.

The Cardinals have been eliminated from the postseason tournament.

Jemari Moore led the Cardinals with 19 points, including three three-pointers, while also contributing one steal and one block. Jonah Ogunsanya made an impact from beyond the arc with three three-pointers, totaling 12 points. 

Khai Branham stood out defensively with two steals and added nine points. Breyton Buysman contributed 10 points and led the team with four assists. 

In the first half of play, Macalester started strongly, hitting two three-pointers to give the team an early 6-0 lead by 18:47. Saint Mary's responded with Moore's three-pointer at 17:57 to narrow the gap. 

The game remained tight with both teams exchanging leads, as Buysman tied it up for the Cardinals at 11:29 with a layup. However, Macalester went on a significant run from the 6:40 mark, contributing to a 10-point lead, making it 30-18 by 5:38. 

Saint Mary's attempted a comeback, highlighted by Branham's three-pointer at 4:04, and a steal and a fast break layup from Jabari Sawyer to close out the half down 42-34.

In the second half, Macalester quickly extended their lead with a three-pointer at 19:46, followed by a layup. Saint Mary's responded with Branham's layup assisted by Sawyer, but Macalester maintained their momentum. 

Macalester went on a scoring run at 16:09 that put them ahead 54-43. The Cardinals attempted to close the gap with Moore's three-pointer at 15:50. Ogunsanya kept the Cardinals in contention with two three-pointers midway through the half, narrowing the deficit. 

The Cardinals were unable to seize their chance to win the final game of the season, falling to the Scots 84-70.

The Cardinals' season came to an end at home today.
