Sawyer Tallies First MIAC Honorable Mention Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its men's basketball awards for the 2024-25 season on Tuesday. 
 
Senior Jabari Sawyer of the Saint Mary's men's basketball team earned himself MIAC Honorable Mention honors, the first of his collegiate career.
 
The senior point guard from Chicago, Illinois, appeared in all but one game for the Cardinals this season, averaging 13.3 points per game while leading the team in both assists and steals. Sawyer topped the conference in steals, averaging two per game for a total of 49 on the season.
 
Sawyer notched a season and a career high 30 points during the 2024-25 season against Bethel on February 1st. He tied his career high with seven assists this season against Macalester and recorded seven steals in a single game at Caltech.
 
Overall, the Cardinal basketball team went 6-19 and 2-14 in conference action.

Saint John's senior wing Ryan Thissen and Hamline junior guard Brendan Ebel were voted the MIAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, while Carleton first-year guard Matt Drake received MIAC Rookie of the Year honors, and Gustavus head coach Justin DeGrood was celebrated as the MIAC Coach of the Year.
