3/5/2025 9:30:00 AM

WINONA, Minn. - Saint Mary's University of Minnesota head men's soccer coach, John Pucci, has announced his resignation after two seasons at the helm of the Cardinals program. Pucci will take on the role of head soccer coach at his alma mater, Hamline University.

"It has been an honor to serve as the head men's soccer coach at Saint Mary's University over the past two seasons. I will cherish all of the memories that have been created and am thankful to all of the Saint Mary's alumni, friends, and family for their support throughout my tenure," said Pucci.

"I am especially grateful for all of the players who believed in the vision my staff and I had for the program. Their hard work and dedication has helped to elevate the program, and will continue to do so in the years to come. I would also like to thank Brian Sisson for his mentorship and guidance throughout the past few years. His support was integral to our success on the field and I will always be grateful for the opportunity he gave my staff and me to lead the program. I am proud that the program is in a better position than it was two years ago and will be a Cardinal fan for life. Thank you for everything."

Under Pucci, the Saint Mary's men's soccer team made significant strides, both on and off the field. Off the field, he guided seven players to Academic All-District honors and saw 16 earn MIAC All-Academic recognition. On the field, he led the Cardinals to their best start since 1983, with a 5-0 record to begin the 2024 season. Under his leadership, two players received postseason honors, including MIAC Honorable Mention in 2023, while one player earned All-Conference and NCAA DIII Third-Team All-Region IX honors in 2024.

Saint Mary's is preparing to unveil a new turf field for the 2025 season. With only six seniors set to graduate, the current Cardinal squad is largely youthful, having featured several individuals who played key roles this past season.

Saint Mary's University of Minnesota will promptly initiate a nationwide search for a replacement.
