Baseball Drops Final Game in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Florida - The Saint Mary's baseball team (2-6) fell to a solid UW-Oshkosh squad (5-2) 6-2 on Saturday for their final game in Florida. The Cardinals were unable to overcome a strong offensive performance by the Titans.

Stephen Golden contributed significantly in a game with one run scored, a walk, and a stolen base without recording a hit. Brinton Anderson demonstrated strong defensive skills with one assist at first base despite hitting into a double play. Sam Knickerbocker was productive at the plate with one hit and one RBI, and he also allowed one passed ball as catcher.

Addison Hochevar, as a pitcher, recorded three strikeouts over four innings, allowing two earned runs and five hits.

In the first inning, the Cardinals took an early lead with Golden drawing a walk and then stealing second. Knickerbocker followed with a single that brought Golden home, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage. The team maintained their momentum, though they left three runners on base.

The fourth inning saw another key contribution from the Cardinals, as Will Boeckman singled and subsequently stole second base. Alex Hanneman capitalized on this opportunity with a single, driving Boeckman in to score, tying the game at 2-2.

During the eighth inning, Josh Costello provided a spark with a double, but the potential rally was halted as the Cardinals were unable to bring any runs across the plate, leaving a runner stranded.

In the ninth inning, the Cardinals sought to mount a comeback after UW-Oshkosh extended their lead to 6-2. Boeckman managed to draw a walk, but the inning concluded with no further scoring, sealing the game's final score.

The Cardinals season began in Florida, and now they look forward to returning home to prepare for their final non-conference games. This upcoming weekend, the Cardinals will travel to Iowa to face UW-Eau Claire and Luther on Saturday and Sunday.
