COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - It was quite a season for the Saint Mary's men's tennis team (7-13). Their campaign came to a close Saturday evening with an 8-1 loss to the Saint John's Johnnies (6-8).
After a strong start by the Cardinals—highlighted by
Evan Huemoeller and
Gavin Pratt securing the first doubles win and match of the day—momentum shifted as they cooled off against a solid Johnnies squad.
Huemoeller came close to closing out his final match as a Cardinal, but ultimately fell in a hard-fought battle, dropping a tight tiebreaker 7-6, 6-3.
In his final match as a Cardinal,
Tucker Stene battled hard but came up short, falling 7-5, 6-1 in an extended game.
The team opened the season on a strong note, racing to a 6-3 record and putting together a season-best four-game winning streak.
The Cardinals would fall 0-9 in conference action.
