Softball Clinches First Perfect Conference Season Since 1998

ST. PAUL, Minn. - For the first time since 1998, the No. 13 Saint Mary's softball team (37-3) has completed an undefeated conference season (22-0), wrapping up their regular season with a road sweep of the Hamline Pipers (15-23) by scores of 1-0 and 5-0.

GAME ONE

For the second day in a row, Makayla Steffes threw a complete game shutout making it her sixth of the season.

The game remained scoreless through six innings, with both teams demonstrating strong pitching and defense.

The Cardinals finally broke through in the top of the seventh inning, scoring the game's only run after Amanda Teschky singled and was driven home by Steffes' huge triple to right field, breaking the deadlock and securing a 1–0 win.

Despite Hamline recording 10 hits, they were unable to convert any into runs, leaving nine runners on base.

GAME TWO

Kenzie Gatz was dominant on the mound, pitching another complete game shutout, her fourth this season, in seven innings allowing only four hits and striking out three.

In the third inning, Megan McGinnis scored on a single by Naleyah Bork, followed by Abbie Stigler driving in another run with a single, bringing the score to 2-0.

Peyton Berg's single in the fourth brought home two more runs, extending the lead to 4-0.

Keeping the momentum going in the fifth inning, Allison Ciero reached on an error and later scored on a single by Zoe Fink, sealing the 5-0 final.

Today's conference sweep secures a flawless conference season and locks in the title of sole regular season champions.

The Cardinals are thrilled to host the MIAC Conference Tournament on Saturday, May 10, with game times and opponents still to be announced. That's when fans can next catch the team in action, as they earned a first-round bye and set their sights on repeating as MIAC champions.
