LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Lake Forest defeated the Saint Mary's men's soccer team 4-0 on Saturday at Farwell Field to close out the weekend in Chicago. Lake Forest scored three goals in the first half and added one more in the second half. Despite nine shots, the Cardinals were unable to convert.
In the first half, the Foresters established control early, with the first goal at the 28th minute. Lake Forest continued their offensive momentum and added another goal in the 36th minute.Â
The home team's advantage was further solidified with a penalty kick goal at the 42nd minute, bringing the score to 3-0 at the half. The Cardinals struggled to find opportunities, with their best look of the half coming from a shot by Cohan Hare in the 43rd minute that went wide and incurring several fouls.
The second half began with the Cardinals immediately on the attack, as Hare took a shot that was saved by the Foresters Marceli Okonski just 18 seconds in. Lake Forest extended their lead to 4-0 with a goal by Ollie Francis in the 49th minute.Â
The Cardinals struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, with multiple shots off target, including an attempt from Caleb Gilbert that hit the left woodwork in the 85th minute.Â
The Cardinals were shutout in Chicago this afternoon but look to regroup and focus their attention to what's next. The team has their home opener on Wednesday, September 3rd at 4:00 p.m. hosting Ripon.
