Saint Mary’s and Coe Play to Stalemate in Intense Senior Day Battle

WINONA, Minn. — It was a hot senior day for the Saint Mary's men's soccer team,  but they still brought the energy! The Cardinals (1-3-2) and the Coe Kohawks (2-1-3) battled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Ochrymowycz Field.

Dylan Goedderz, who is on a scoring frenzy this week, scored the only goal for the team, finding the back of the net with his sole shot on target. Gabe Le and Cohan Hare added the assist. In goal, Ryan Horlock was back and recorded three saves over 90 minutes, facing seven shots and allowing just one goal.

The first half between Saint Mary's and Coe was a defensive standoff, culminating in a 0-0 scoreline.

Caleb Gilbert of the Cardinals initiated an early offensive surge with two shots by the eighth minute, but both efforts failed to find the net. Coe's goal keeper was instrumental in the goal, making crucial saves against attempts from Amarr Adam and Hare to maintain the scoreless tie.

Saint Mary's goalkeeper Horlock also kept the Kohawks at bay, notably saving a big shot in the 27th minute, as both teams struggled to convert opportunities into goals amidst frequent fouls.

Saint Mary's and Coe entered the second half still tied.

Early fouls by both teams set a physical tone.

Finally, at the 72nd mark, Coe struck first with a break away and took the lead. Just ten minutes later is when the breakaway on the left side of the pitch was created by Le with intentions to Hare but it was tipped to Goedderz for the equalizer.

The match intensified as Coe received a red card shortly after the goals, leaving them a man down for the remainder of the game.

The Cardinals could not capitalize with the remaining time and played to their second consecutive draw.

THe Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, September 17th, to open conference traveling to Bethel for a 4:00 p.m. match up.
