ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — Conference play is underway, and the Saint Mary's women's soccer team (6-0-0, 1-0-0) secured their first conference win with a 1-0 victory over Bethel (0-6-1, 0-2-0) on the road Tuesday evening.
Samantha Munson netted the lone goal on six shots, securing the game-winning goal for the Cardinals. Lauryn Skoruppa contributed the assist and added one shot during the match.
In goal, Anna Peckosh recorded a clean sheet with three saves over 90 minutes, facing seven shots in the process.
The first half between Saint Mary's and Bethel ended scoreless, with both teams showcasing strong defensive efforts.
The Cardinals dominated early possession, earning multiple corner kicks within the first 12 minutes, but the Royals goalkeeper kept them at bay with key saves, including a notable stop against Munson's shot in the 11th minute.
The half was marked by several fouls from both sides, contributing to the tense atmosphere, but neither team converted their opportunities into goals.
That halftime speech must have been powerful as the Cardinals came out in the second half and scored just over a minute into action.
Saint Mary's maintained pressure with multiple shots, including a close call again by Munson hitting the top woodwork at the 51st minute.
Bethel's attempts to equalize were thwarted by Peckosh's saves.
Beating the heat, the Cardinals held onto their 1-0 lead to take the first game in conference.
The Cardinals look to continue conference action hosting Augsburg on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. game time.
