Soccer Battles to Loss Against No. 5 Auggies

WINONA, Minn. — Augsburg (9-0-0, 2-0-0), currently ranked number 5 in the nation, secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Saint Mary's (1-5-2, 0-2-0) at Ochrymowycz Field, highlighted by a hat trick performance by an Auggie.

In the first half, Augsburg took an early lead with a goal early in the 6th minute. The Cardinals responded with a series of attempts, with CJ Tree's shot saved by Augsburg's goalkeeper Christian Hodges at 6:28. 

The momentum shifted when an equalizer came from Cohan Hare in the 20th minute, assisted by Thomas Laaksonen. 

Both teams continued to battle for control, exchanging several shots and fouls, maintaining a 1-1 score at the end of the half.

Augsburg gained momentum early in the second half with Harris scoring in the 50th to bring their lead to 2-1. Harris struck again in the 64th minute, expanding the Auggies lead to 3-1. 

Despite several attempts from the Cardinals, including a shot by Caleb Gilbert in the 64th minute, Augsburg's defense remained unyielding. 

The Auggies sealed their victory with a penalty kick goal in the 87th minute, concluding the match with a 4-1 result.

Hare led the Cardinals with three total shots, including the one on goal. 

Ryan Horlock, in goal, recorded three saves while facing 14 shots, allowing four goals during his 90 minutes on the field. 

The Cardinals return to action back at the Oak on Wednesday, September 24th for a 4:30 p.m. game against North Central Minnesota.
