BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for basketball and hockey on Monday. Student-athletes from Concordia, Gustavus, Saint Mary's, and St. Scholastica claimed the Conference's weekly honors.
For the first time this season, a hockey pair from Saint Mary's garner conference honors for their play last week.

Carter Newpower posted the first hat trick of his collegiate career in the Cardinals' 8-1 win over Beloit on 1/16. Newpower netted the Cardinals' go-ahead goal in the first period and proceeded to score in each of the next two frames. Newpower also contributed another goal in a 6-4 loss to UW-River Falls on 1/17. His fourth goal of the weekend came in the third period of the non-conference matchup with the Falcons.

Magali Fillion recorded 34 saves with one goal allowed in nearly 65 minutes of action against nationally-ranked Gustavus on 1/17. Fillion's lone blemish came 52 seconds into the third period. She went on to hold the Gusties scoreless in overtime and stopped all four shots in the shootout to give SMU an extra point in the conference standings.
