WINONA, Minn. – After a jam-packed week, Cardinal athletics is right back at it with another stretch full of action across multiple sports.

Track & Field on the Road

The Cardinals competed at the UW–La Crosse Pat Healy Classic last Saturday, highlighted by a standout performance from senior sprinter Samantha Munson. Munson etched her name into the record books by breaking a 20-year-old school record in the 200 meters, clocking a 25.99 to finish fifth overall.

This weekend, Saint Mary's heads to Northfield, Minnesota, for the St. Olaf Invitational and Multi, which begins Friday, Jan. 30, at 2:00 p.m. and continues throughout the day on Saturday, Jan. 31.

Tennis Continues Homestand

Saint Mary's tennis opened the 2026 season with a busy weekend of competition. The men's team hosted three matches, going 1–2 with a 6–1 victory over Martin Luther before falling to Lawrence and Carleton. The women's team also returned to action, earning a dominant 7–0 sweep of Martin Luther in their first match back.

The homestand continues this Friday as both teams host Concordia Wisconsin at 6:00 p.m.

Men's Hockey Keeps Rolling

The Saint Mary's men's hockey team (8-7-2, 4-3-1 MIAC) stayed out of the loss column last week with a strong series against Saint John's. The Cardinals earned a shootout win at home Thursday before closing the weekend with a 3–1 road victory on Saturday.

Sophomore Joona Juntunen had a big week, scoring three goals and adding an assist to earn his first MIAC Player of the Week honor.

Saint Mary's returns home this weekend to host St. Scholastica, beginning Friday, Jan. 30, with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop before playing the Saint Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Women's Hockey Heads North

The Cardinals (7-7-2, 2-5-2 MIAC) split their conference series with Saint Benedict last weekend. After a tough loss on a late goal Friday, Saint Mary's bounced back with a 1–0 overtime win Saturday, sealed by Celia Midtbo's game-winner.

The Cardinals travel to Duluth this weekend to face St. Scholastica on Friday, Jan. 30, at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday matchup at 2:00 p.m.

Men's Basketball Back at Home

Saint Mary's men's basketball (1-17, 0-9 MIAC) looks to turn the page as the second round of conference play begins. The Cardinals host Carleton on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 7:00 p.m., before welcoming Bethel on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

The Knights claimed the first meeting earlier this season, while the Royals edged Saint Mary's by just two points.

Women's Basketball Eyes Redemption

The Cardinals (13-4, 7-3 MIAC) split a pair of home games last week, cruising past St. Olaf 81–45 before falling to Saint Benedict. This week brings two familiar conference opponents.

Saint Mary's travels to Carleton on Wednesday, Jan. 28, for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff, then returns home Saturday, Jan. 31, to host Bethel, currently second in the conference, at 1:00 p.m. The Royals won the previous matchup by a single point, giving the Cardinals plenty of motivation for a rematch.

It's another busy, exciting week across Cardinal athletics, don't miss a moment. Go Cardinals!
