WINONA, Minn. — In the season opener, the Saint Mary's men's hockey team (0-1-0) was stunned by Lake Forest (1-0-0) on Friday night. Six unanswered goals quieted the Cardinals as they dropped the nonconference matchup 6-1.
Tyler Stueck gave the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead at the 2:33 mark, assisted by Hayden Hedquist and Blake Green, to bring the SMU Ice Arena to their feet.
The Foresters would capitalize on a power play at the 15:29 mark to head into period two tied 1-1.
The goals then piled on top of the Cardinals as the Foresters tacked on six unanswered goals (one in the second period) to rattle the Cardinals as they fell in game one of the series, 6-1.
There was no response by the Cardinals.
Looking Ahead
The Cardinals will get another shot at the Foresters, hosting them for the season finale at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 31.Â
