WINONA, Minn. – The final week of the regular season is here for Saint Mary's winter sports, which means it's the last chance to catch several Cardinal teams in action at home before postseason play begins.
TRACK & FIELD HEADS TO MANKATO
After an impressive weekend that saw record-breaking performances, the Cardinals are back in action at the Maverick Invitational in Mankato. Sam Munson reset her own school record in the women's 200m with a time of 25.69, while Mya Slavin shattered a 20-year-old mark in the women's 3000m with a 10:20.58 finish.
This week's meet begins Friday, Feb. 20 at 3:00 p.m. with field events and serves as the final tune-up before the MIAC Indoor Championships next Friday and Saturday at Carleton College.
TENNIS RETURNS HOME
The Cardinal tennis teams split results last weekend on the road. The men (3-5, 0-1) were swept by University of Northwestern – St. Paul, while the women (4-1, 0-1)secured a strong 6-1 victory over the Eagles. The women then traveled to face No. 34 Carleton College to open conference play but came up short.
Both teams return to the Winona Tennis Center this Friday, Feb. 20, hosting Crown College at 6:00 p.m.
MEN'S BASKETBALL CLOSES THE SEASON
Saint Mary's men's basketball (1-22, 0-14) wraps up its season with two final contests. The Cardinals host Hamline University on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to face No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the season finale.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EYES PLAYOFF POSITIONING
The Cardinal women (19-4, 13-3) clinched a playoff berth in their final home game with an 80-63 win over St. Scholastica on Senior Day and marking the second straight season the program is headed to postseason play.
There's still work to be done in the standings. Saint Mary's travels to Hamline University on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. tip before closing the regular season Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College at 1:00 p.m. which are two teams the Cardinals narrowly defeated earlier this year.
WOMEN'S HOCKEY FACES A BIG TEST
Senior Day was memorable for Saint Mary's women's hockey (9-12-2, 6-9-2) as the Cardinals topped St. Olaf College 4-3 behind senior captain Teagan Phillips' first career hat trick.
Now the challenge ramps up. The Cardinals host No. 2 Augsburg University on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 p.m., then travel to St. Paul for Saturday's 4:00 p.m. regular-season finale. A sweep of the Auggies is essential to keep postseason hopes alive.
MEN'S HOCKEY BACK ON TOP
It was a rollercoaster week for the Cardinal men. After falling to St. Olaf College on Friday and slipping to third in the conference standings, Saint Mary's (13-8-2, 9-4-1) responded with a dominant 6-1 victory Saturday to climb back into first that was helped by a loss from Gustavus Adolphus College.
The stakes are clear: win out and claim the program's first regular-season title since 1987-88. Doing so would secure the top playoff seed and home ice for the opening rounds.
The Cardinals travel to face Augsburg University on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before hosting the regular-season finale Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
SOFTBALL OPENS 4-0
Saint Mary's softball couldn't have scripted a better start, going 4-0 on opening weekend and not allowing a single run Sunday. The Cardinals return to the Mankato Dome this weekend, opening Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against UW–La Crosse before Sunday morning matchups against Dominican University and University of Minnesota Morris.
BASEBALL OPENS IN ARIZONA
The 2026 baseball season begins in warmer weather as the Cardinals head to Tucson, Arizona, for a three-game set against Luther College. First pitch is Friday, Feb. 20 at 5:00 p.m. (CT), followed by games Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
The crossover season is officially here, winter championships on the line, and spring seasons underway. It's an exciting week to be a Cardinal.
