MADISON, Wis. – The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team fought to a hard-earned 3-3 tie against Edgewood University Saturday afternoon at the Powness Tennis Center, as the match was halted due to time constraints before a winner could be decided.
The Cardinals came out strong in doubles play, capturing the crucial opening point. Elena Ruzevich and Emily Dondelinger teamed up for a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Olivia Molumby and Harsha Gangasani added a 6-3 win at No. 2 to secure the early advantage.
In singles action, Saint Mary's continued to battle in tightly contested matches throughout the lineup.
At No. 2 singles, Dondelinger delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the afternoon. After winning the opening set 7-5 and dropping the second 6-2, she responded in the super tiebreak to claim a 10-5 decision and earn a key point for the Cardinals.
Aheli Patel was dominant at No. 3 singles, earning a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 victory. Harsha Gangasani followed with a strong performance at No. 6 singles, posting a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Maddie Jensen pushed her No. 5 singles match to a third-set super tiebreak before falling 10-6, while No. 4 singles between Olivia Molumby and Kaitlyn Narkis went unfinished when time expired. Molumby had split sets and was poised for a deciding stretch before play was halted.
With the score knotted at 3-3, the match was declared a tie.
Saint Mary's will jump back into conference action at St. Olaf on Saturday, March 14.
