WINONA, Minn. – Things are starting to pick up for Saint Mary's athletics as the spring season gets into full swing.
BASEBALL SET TO OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY
The Saint Mary's baseball team (11-6) comes in hot, riding a five-game winning streak after sweeping UW-Superior in a four-game weekend set in Iowa. With heavy snow forcing a change of venue, the Cardinals didn't miss a beat, proving the location didn't matter.
The team racked up 39 hits, with 26 RBI's on the weekend.
After a few days to reset, the Cardinals will hit the road to open conference play on Saturday, Mar. 28, traveling to Collegeville, Minn., to take on Saint John's. The MIAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
TRACK & FIELD KICKS OFF OUTDOOR SEASON
The outdoor season gets underway this week, with the Cardinals competing at two meets. The distance group heads to St. Louis for the Washington University Distance Medley on Thursday and Friday, Mar. 26–27. The rest of the team will compete at the Central College Invitational in Pella, Iowa, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 28.
Saint Mary's is coming off a strong indoor season that saw eight conference honorees, all of whom will look to carry that momentum into the outdoor campaign with their sights set on nationals.
TENNIS RETURNS HOME
The Saint Mary's tennis teams are back in action this weekend following a road loss at Concordia Moorhead.
The women will travel to face St. Catherine on Friday, Mar. 27, with first serve set for 7:30 p.m., before returning home to host No. 19 Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday, Mar. 29 at 1:30 p.m. returning home for their first home match since Feb. 27.
On the men's side, the Cardinals will host Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Mar. 28 at 1:30 p.m., marking their first home appearance since late February and continuing conference play.
Spring sports are officially underway in Winona, and the Cardinals are ready to get going. Go Cardinals!
