GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Saint Mary's women's basketball team landed four student-athletes to the prestigious College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Honors list for their work on and off the court.
Academic All-District honorees must be at least sophomores, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and meet all sport-specific eligibility requirements. Each institution was permitted to nominate up to four student-athletes.
For her second consecutive season, senior point guard Lindsey Lettner (Trempealeau, Wis./Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau) is earning her Academic All-District honors for her perfect 4.0 GPA, one she has held for multiple seasons. Earlier this month, Lettner also earned the prestigious Elite 22 award in the conference for her academics for a second consecutive season.
The accounting major started in all 28 games for the Cardinals, averaging 5.7 points per game for 159 on the season. The star had 51 assists and 27 steals in the breakout season for the team.
Alongside her were teammates Kali Olson (New York Mills, Minn./New York Mills), Rylie Sternquist (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake), and Brianna Nusbaum (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake) who are receiving this honor for the first time in their careers.
Junior Olson, the Biology / Pre-Physical Therapy major, played a key piece in the paint for the team playing in 27 of 28 games, averaging 9.3 points per game and 7.4 rebounds for seven double-doubles this season.Â
She surpassed 500 career points and 500 career rebounds this season and led the team in blocks this season with 24. She received All-Conference honors for her skills.
Sophomore Sternquist made her mark studying elementary education while being a force on the court starting in all 24 of her games played. She averaged 12.3 points per game with 44 assists and 106 total boards this season.
She recorded 16 steals this season and three blocks and earned a career best 26 points against Simpson earlier in the season.
Lastly, sophomore star, Nusbaum was a facilitator for the Cardinals with 59 assists on the season and led the team in steals with 76 this season earning her All-Conference honors. The Biology/Pre-Medical Imaging major put on a show every night and scored a program best 33 points against Grinnell, bringing her season average to 15.0 points per game.
Nusbaum started in all 28 games for the Cardinals and recorded the most minutes of any of her teammates with a total of 855 minutes played.
These Cardinals helped push the team to their best finish in over a decade, earning an At-large bid to the NCAA DIII Women's Basketball Tournament where they fell in the first round.Â
The team finished with an impressive 20-8 record this season and 13-5 in conference.
