WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's women's tennis team (5-6-1, 0-6 MIAC) faced a tough test Sunday afternoon, falling 7-0 to No. 19 Gustavus Adolphus College (17-5, 5-0 MIAC) in MIAC action at the Winona Tennis Center.
The visiting Gusties set the tone early, sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Saint Mary's battled throughout, but Gustavus carried that momentum into singles play to secure the conference victory.
At No. 1 doubles, the Cardinal duo of Elena Ruzevich and Emily Dondelinger dropped a 6-0 decision, while Aheli Patel and Olivia Molumby fell 6-0 at No. 2. The No. 3 pairing of Harsha Gangasani and Maddie Jensen also came up short, 6-0.
In singles play, Saint Mary's continued to compete, highlighted by a point from Olivia Molumby at No. 4 singles, but the Gusties proved too strong across the lineup. Ruzevich (No. 1), Dondelinger (No. 2), Taylor DePover (No. 3), Gangasani (No. 5), and Kathryn Stiegel (No. 6) each battled but were unable to break through against their nationally-ranked opponents.
Saint Mary's takes a short break before they continue MIAC competition back at home on Sunday, Apr. 12 against Saint Benedict.
