Lindsey Rossow: Competing with Purpose, Pride, and a New Perspective

4/8/2026 12:00:00 PM

Lindsey Rossow's journey in volleyball began with a gradual build, shaped by consistent effort and a growing understanding of her role rather than immediate recognition, allowing her to develop a strong foundation rooted in discipline, repetition, and a genuine love for competing every day at a higher level.

"Volleyball became serious for me when I realized how much I truly loved competing every single day. I wanted to keep pushing myself to reach a higher level and play against competition that would help make me better."

Her recruiting process reflected a focus on long term fit rather than short term attention, prioritizing relationships, environment, and culture, which ultimately led her to a program where she felt both comfortable and challenged as a student athlete.

"I wanted to go somewhere that felt like home to me, where I could grow not only as a player but also as a person, and be a part of a team culture that meant something." Ro

That decision naturally aligned with choosing Division III, where the balance between academics and athletics is emphasized without sacrificing competitiveness, reinforcing the idea that success at this level still demands a high level of commitment and discipline.

"I think a lot of people misunderstand Division III because they assume it is not as competitive - it's still competitive, and the reality is everyone here is putting in the work and competing at a really high level every day. Playing at any college level is a special opportunity."

As she transitioned into the college game, the pace and consistency required forced an adjustment, pushing her to elevate her habits and approach in order to meet the demands of a faster and more physical level of play.

"The biggest adjustment for me was changing positions, but also realizing how fast the game is at this level, and how consistent you have to be, because you really cannot take plays off if you want to compete."

Within that transition, Rossow found her identity in a defensive role, embracing the importance of consistency, energy, and reliability, understanding that her impact would often come in moments that do not always appear on a stat sheet.

"I have always taken a lot of pride in being someone my team can rely on defensively, bringing energy every point, and doing the little things that help the team succeed even if they are not always recognized."

Her growth as a player has been shaped not only by her own work ethic but also by the environment around her, where teammates and coaches have played a critical role in building confidence and pushing her development forward.

"My teammates and coaches have had a huge impact on me because they push me every day to improve, and having that kind of support system has really helped me grow as both a player and a person."

One of the most defining challenges in her career came through adversity, as a major knee surgery forced her to step away from the game and fully commit to a demanding rehabilitation process that tested both her physical and mental strength.

"The hardest part of going through this injury and recovery for a second time has been staying patient with the process. There were, and still are, many days where it feels slow and frustrating. It was hard to see progress right away, but now I'm really just trusting the process."

During that time, she made the decision to share her rehab journey publicly, creating a platform that allowed her to connect with others while also holding herself accountable throughout the recovery process.

"I wanted to share my recovery journey because I knew there were other people going through similar situations, and if I could help even one person stay positive and keep pushing then it would be worth it. It's also a fun way for me to document my progress and stay motivated."

That experience ultimately reshaped her mindset, giving her a deeper appreciation for the game and a stronger perspective on the opportunities she has moving forward each time she steps on the court.

"Going through this injury again has really changed my perspective on things. It's made me appreciate every single opportunity I have to play, and has given me a new level of motivation to not take anything for granted."

Now, her approach to the game reflects both growth and perspective, as she continues to focus on contributing to her team in meaningful ways while maintaining the consistency and effort that define her role.

"I measure my success by how well I am doing my job for the team, bringing energy, staying consistent, and making sure I am contributing in ways that help us win even if it does not show up in stats."

Looking beyond volleyball, Rossow's goals extend into nursing, a path shaped by early exposure and a strong interest in helping others, especially through meaningful work with children and building relationships in a hands-on environment.

"I have always wanted to be a nurse since I was little because I was surrounded by it growing up, and I love working with kids so I plan to go into pediatrics since there are so many different opportunities within nursing."

Looking ahead, Rossow remains focused on continuing to improve while making the most of her opportunities, carrying forward the lessons she has learned through both success and adversity into the next phase of her career.

"The big goal of my college career was 1000 digs, and I am so grateful I was able to accomplish that. I had other stat goals I wanted to achieve pre-injury, but now the goal is really just being able to be back and play for one last season. I want to keep improving every day, help my team compete at a high level, and make the most out of every opportunity I am given on and off the court."
