DUBUQUE, IOWA – The Saint Mary's men's soccer team (0-3-1) traveled back to Iowa to take on the University of Dubuque (3-2-0) on Saturday afternoon. The team played a man down after a late red card was assessed in the first half as the Cardinals battled to a 2-1 loss.
Francesco Cardone took the lead for the Cardinals, assisted by Caleb Gilbert at the 32-minute mark. Just ten minutes later, the Spartans tied the game heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Cardinals' Cardone came out firing again. The pressure of the Spartans allowed the go-ahead goal at the 55th minute.
Neither team could get anything to fall in the final 30 minutes.Â
Despite outshooting the Spartans 13-12, the Cardinals could only put one away.
Gio Barron had the Cardinals' other shot on goal look.
Ryan Horlock was in goal and made five saves for the program.
Looking Ahead
The Saint Mary's men's soccer team will be back in action on Monday, hosting Luther College in a rescheduled game from Sept. 1. The game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
