Cathy Bids Farewell

Cathy Bids Farewell

First, I would like to thank my Mom and Dad for being such a great support network over the past 10 years of volleyball.  Thanks for driving me to practices and tournaments as a kid, coming to more volleyball games then I can count, being there to cheer me up when things don’t go right and to cheer me on when they do, listening to me vent, stepping in as a coach when needed even though your only timeout advice was to “keep it up! You guys are all awesome”, and so many other things you guys have done over the years!  I love you guys so much!!  Thanks to my sister, Carol, for playing volleyball with me as a kid.  We could play off the roof for hours and even though we fought during it I still had fun (ooh thanks Dad for not making us pay for the new shingles?).  You were such a great motivator and always pushed me to work harder and do better.  You were always there for me during volleyball in high school and you’re still there for me now and I really appreciate it.  I know I can always look to you for advice and support, not just about volleyball, but about anything.  Thanks again, love you!

Thanks to Grams and Gramps for coming to so many games in high school and now.  Not just volleyball games but all my sports games.  I know my basketball games really cut into your Arizona time but you guys always stayed a few extra weeks just to support me, thanks for being there for me, Love you!

Thanks to my high school coaches, especially Mrs. Hunskor for making me fall in love with the game, and Mr. Canton for stepping in and being a great coach of one of my favorite and most memorable seasons of volleyball.  I would also like to thank Tessa for being such a great assistant coach my first three years here and always knowing what to say to get us fired up during games, even though I can’t repeat it here ?  Thanks to Jenna for being a great assistant coach this year!  I hope I can get to know you better even after the season is over.  Thanks to Rohde and Ashley for coming to our practices and playing with us, I really appreciate all the time you guys put in to help make us better.  Thanks Coach Lester for being such a dedicated and involved coach; I’ve learned so much over the last four years and I’m glad I got to be a part of this team.

Thank you to the SMU community for supporting this program so much.  The send-off for the NCAA tournament is definitely one of my best memories since being here.  Thanks for all the fans that come to the games and cheer us on especially the cross country team with your locker room decorating and painted chests you guys are such great supporters!!  Also, thanks to Lexi, Nicole, Puff, Eric, and Meyer for coming to so many games over the past four years  ?  And Pat I miss your white board and signs, and always telling us where the other team is going to serve, it was great having you in the stands.  Cokes you are still my favorite line judge; we could always count on you to come through when we needed a close call to go our way ?

And finally, thanks to the people who made the last four years of volleyball such a great experience, THE TEAM:

Erika, Britt, Lindsey, Harstad, Welly- you guys were so nice and really made me feel welcome from my first preseason practice as a freshman.  You were all so fun to play with and I am glad I got to be your teammate because you guys are awesome people and players.  Also, everyone on the 2009 team who made St. Louis and the NCAA tournament possible and made it such a great time!!

Jordan, Seba, Lex, Emily, Taylor, and Brooke- you guys are such great girls and I wish I could have gotten to play with you longer!  Good thing vball is a fall sport so at least we have the rest of the year to hang out and get to know each other better; especially Lex, Emily and Brooke since you guys are lucky enough to have me as your RA too ;)
Jenna- “If you aren’t cheating you aren’t trying”.  I don’t know if you said this or if Coach Jenna just said it to you one day but it definitely sounds like something you would say…always calling close balls out for your team and never admitting to a touch at practice.  But, I always know you are giving 110% every day and you have worked so hard over the last two years to get back on the court.  You are a great player and you will do great things over the next few years!!

Molly- You have come so far over the last two years.  I’m glad we are out of high school so we can stop being rivals because you are a great person and player and I’m glad that I got to have you as a teammate!

Mary- After two years I’m still not sure what to say to get you really fired up, but I can always count on you to agree with anything someone says ;)   You are such a nice person!!  Make sure you keep working hard over these next couple of years and becoming an even greater player!!
Megan S- You are such a great girl I am so glad I got to get to know you!  Our last night in Italy is one of my favorite times with you.  You are so funny and I still have that pig nose picture on my camera ?  You work so hard and hustle all the time on the court and I love that about you.  Keep working hard and continue to be a great player!

Janae- You are one of the most consistent players and you always seem to have such a great attitude I love it! You are always positive and you work so hard every day and I am glad I got to have you as a teammate.  Good luck your next two seasons!!

Buns- You are probably one of the funniest people I know and I’m so glad I got to know you over these past two seasons.  I would say three seasons but I’m pretty sure you never spoke your freshman year ?  But I am glad you finally decided to start talking your sophomore year!  Not sure if coach is though since now you talk all the time.  He even had to call our hotel room and tell us to be quiet and then never let us room together again for the rest of last year or this year.  You could even make morning workouts entertaining which I didn’t think was possible.  I’ve just had so many good times with you on and off the court and I look forward to the rest of this year!  And, not only are you a great person off the court but you are a great player as well and I am glad I got to play on a team with you! Good luck next year!  I will miss you!

Lexi- You are an awesome player and I am so happy you left the big city and came to SMU.  You know how to get everyone pumped up and you always work so hard on the court, not only when it comes to volleyball but also showing us your sweet modern dance falls which I never could get down haha…I have had so many good times with you over the last three years and I look forward to the rest of the school year and all the fun times to come ?  Good luck next year!!

Tara- Well we go way back to high school when we played each other a couple times senior year.  I have to admit I wasn’t a big fan of yours back then, but I do like it much better when you are playing on my team rather than against it.  Also, I am pretty sure we were on the same JO team for over a month before we realized we were both coming to SMU.  I’m glad that I have gotten to get to know you over these last few years because you are such a great person and player!  I will definitely miss getting to be your teammate!

Megan- From the start of freshmen year we have been not only teammates but friends and it has been awesome.  I could never put all of the awesome memories I have with you in this short paragraph but to name a few: Spring break in Arizona, Italy, coaching together, being roommates, Milwaukee, and basically just any weekends together are so much fun.  Not only are you a great friend off the court, but on the court as well.  Coming in as a setter and ending your career as a starting outside is awesome and it shows how hard working and versatile you are as a player.  I am going to miss being your teammate, but I know that we will continue to be friends!!

Carissa- I don’t even know where to start!  We have been friends and teammates since freshmen year too and there have been so many good times together! Arizona for spring break was definitely one of my favorite times with you.  I still laugh at so many of those pictures like the cactus reenactments, your self-portrait in the tree and all the ‘duuuuhhhh’ moments.  And there were so many fun times up in Hill City over the 4th of July. I am just so glad that we got to be on a team together so we could become such good friends and make all these awesome memories!!  You are such an awesome player and have been such a big part of this team.  Again, even if we don’t get to be teammates anymore I know we will stay friends and there are many many many more great times to come!

Bree- You are by far the strongest, most determined, and inspirational person I have ever known!! You have been through so much and still keep your head up and continue to get better and stronger every day.  I am truly lucky to have gotten to be your teammate and your friend.  Keep up all your hard work!  You will do great things and I cannot wait for you to come back to SMU so I can see you on campus everyday ?  Thank you for being such a great player and person and know that you inspire so many people including me!  Miss you and love you Bree!!

Thanks again to all my family and friends, teammates and coaches, and fans.  I am lucky to have been a part of this team and I have met so many great people and made so many great memories because of it!! <3  SMU Volleyball 2012 <3
