A Word From Coach Cassidy

A Word From Coach Cassidy

Seniors – From the bottom of my heart thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do for this program, our program. As individuals you all bring something that will be sorely missed, but it is your impact on the team that will be missed most of all. You have been there for your teammates through the ups and downs and your leadership both on and off the field has continued to lead the program down the right path. The feeling of family you all bring and how you welcomed not only last year’s but also this year’s freshmen is a testament to the character and respect you have for your team and they have of you.

Katie Holmes
Can one of the smallest players on our team have one of the most powerful shots, of course they can and her name is Katie. Katie, your passion for the game is unbridled and the knowledge you bring to training and games is fantastic to see. I know if I had any questions that were even remotely related to Barcelona, that you would know the answer. I hope that you continue to keep your passion and love for the game and that you get the opportunity at some point in your life to visit the Campnou to see Messi and Neymar play, if you do I want a full report ?. I have enjoyed seeing you grow as an individual and I am positive that it will continue, so keep up the hard work and know that if you ever need anything then I am here for you. Good luck in what ever path your future holds. Thank you for everything you have done for the SMU women’s soccer program.

Beth Schmidt
Something resonated with me from your father’s speech and that was your middle name – Joy. I really cannot think of a more suitable word that describes you. I really think you bring Joy to everything you do and that imparts happiness to others more than you would know. I can think of another word – Positive. Your attitude day in and day out never falters, you bring a positive attitude in all that you do and especially on the soccer field, which has helped your teammates. They know that you will always be there for them and that at every practice and game you will give 100%, asking questions that will not only make you a better player, but will also help your team. I am going to miss the only interpretive dance for t-shirts in pre season!!! You have the work ethic to achieve whatever dreams you have and I look forward to hearing what the future has in store for you. Thank you for everything you have done for the SMU women’s soccer program.

Tessa Scanlon
I was so happy that you had a somewhat injury free season for your senior year, compared to your last two. It was fantastic to have you playing and the consistency you brought to practices and games was awesome. You are a force to be reckoned on the field, with particular reference to your sliding tackles as well your communication. Whenever you are not at a practice it is quite clear that the energy level is a little lower as you 100% bring that. I know that I can always rely on you for an honest answer and not just what you think I would like to hear, that is a great trait to have and will for sure help you as you take the next steps in your journey. You also have the uncanny knack of lightening the mood when a situation calls for it. As the self proclaimed ‘weird one’ of the team, it is going to be hard to replace all that you bring as well as the, What rhymes with Cardinals … shout!!! Thank you for everything you have done for the SMU Women’s Soccer program.

Heidi Martin
I am so happy that you decided to come out for soccer your junior year, to say that you were only on the team for one year and then voted as captain was awesome and shows exactly the type of person you are. I have enjoyed our many conversations and being paired with you multiple times in hot seats!! I will miss chatting with you, so please make sure to check in every now and then as I know you will. You are such a caring person and the field that you want to go into fits you like a glove, you will have tremendous success and will help countless people along the way, but remember to look after yourself as well. On the field, you give everything you can and we cannot ask for more, you are a great leader, positive and always there for your teammates. Off the field, you have taken over the role as provider for the team with your team dinners before our weekend games. It has been my pleasure to get to know you and I wish you the best of success for the future. Thank you for everything you have done for the SMU Women’s Soccer program.

Seniors, thank you once again for all that you do, have done and will continue to do, to be the fine ambassadors for our women’s soccer program. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for each one of you and please know that we as a family will always be here for you.
