A Word From Coach Moore

The men’s hockey team has four graduating seniors that are tremendous examples of student-athletes. Whether it is on the ice or in the classroom, these young men possess the characteristics needed to be successful in life: hard-work, commitment, dedication, loyalty, as well as many others.

Nick Gorup
Nick transferred to Saint Mary’s as a sophomore and has been a Cardinal regular ever since.  He has been asked to play many different roles during his career and has always done so willingly.  Serving as an alternate captain for his senior season, Nick has been a great leader for the team on the ice, in the locker room, and around campus.  Graduating as a human resource management major, the Cardinals players and staff want to thank Nick for his hard work and wish him all of the best in the future.

Kevin Wentland
Kevin is a very talented offensive player receiving all-conference honorable mention honors during his sophomore season for his efforts.  Whether he is on the power play or an even strength, he is always a threat to take the puck the length of the ice and score a highlight reel goal.  Working very hard in the classroom, Kevin has become a very well rounded student-athlete.  Graduating as a public relations major, the Cardinals players and staff want to thank Kevin for his hard work and wish him all of the best in the future.

Jason Horstman
Jason has been a four year regular in the goal for the varsity team.  Jason’s contribution to the growth of the program have been tremendous.  Giving the Cardinals stability in the goal, Jason helped to improve our defensive play by giving us solid goaltending.  As a freshman, Jason earned all-conference honorable mention honors.  Graduating as an elementary education major with a math endorsement, the Cardinals players and staff want to thank Jason for his hard work and wish him all of the best in the future.

Andy Scheib
Andy has also been a staple in goal for the Cardinal Hockey team since he came to the program.  Being a starter as a freshman, Andy has dealt with adversity when he had a season ending knee injury during his sophomore campaign.  Working hard to overcome the injury, Andy has regained his level of play and has been a mainstay in goal for the Cardinals this season.  Graduating as a public relations major with a minor in sports management, the Cardinals players and staff want to thank Andy for his hard work and wish him all of the best in the future.

Allen Mekash
Allen has had many different roles with the Cardinal Hockey program.  Starting his SMU hockey career as a JV goaltender, Allen practiced with the varsity team before deciding to be the video coach/manager of the team this season.  His contributions to Cardinal Hockey as well as the entire athletic department have been considerable.  Graduating as a criminal justice-law enforcement major with minors in sociology and political science, the Cardinals players and staff want to thank Allen for his hard work and wish him all of the best in the future.
