Brad Bids Farewell

The past four years I have spent at Saint Mary’s have been a great chapter in my life. The Saint Mary’s University Men’s Hockey Program has helped guide me through tough times and has helped me soar through great times. Hockey at Saint Mary’s has helped shape me as a student, a leader, and as a friend.

As a student, Saint Mary’s Hockey has taught me how to manage my time to balance the many great activities in a college student’s life. Spending roughly four hours out of my weekdays with hockey activities and averaging about 17 credits a semester for classes has been a large factor in becoming student-athlete here at Saint Mary’s.  The teammates I have had and have here now have pushed me to do well in the classroom whether they know it or not. The way that they have helped me is by being some of my closest friends and I could not imagine letting them down due to lack of effort in the classroom.

As a leader, I was elected by the team my junior year to be their captain. This nomination will be one of my greatest memories in my whole life, because it shows how much the guys care about me and how much I care about each and every one of them. I am proud to be one of the many leaders that we have on this team and that I could look in the Locker room and see so many guys who could wear the “C“ just as proud as I did.

Lastly, the Hockey program has helped shape me as a friend. All of the teammates that I have had at Saint Mary’ have been great. As a freshman, the upperclassmen brought me into a family that will be unforgettable. As I became an upperclassman my fellow classmates and I hopefully made the new guys feel the same way that we felt coming into Saint Mary’s.
I would like to thank the coaching staff for recruiting me to Saint Mary’s University. I could not ask for a more loyal coaching staff that cares so much about each and every player in the hockey program.  When the coaches say that they will anything for their players, he truly means it.

I would also like to thank my dad, mom, and brother for all that they have done to get me this far in hockey. The first time my mom and dad took me to an ice rink I was terrified and wanted nothing to do with getting on that ice. Once they finally got me on the ice, a whole new world was waiting for me to explore. I would also like to thank my brother for always skating with me on our rink in the backyard and pushing me to get better at the sport I love so much.

I am not worried for a second about the direction that this team is heading in the near future. There are so many skilled, hardworking guys returning for another memorable year of Cardinal Hockey. Thanks boys for all the great memories here at Saint Mary’s.
