Brian Bids Farewell
As I sat down to begin writing this, I soon realized that this was going to harder than any class assignment or paper — not because I didn't study, but because of the emotions of saying goodbye. So to me this isn't a goodbye, rather I feel it is the start to the next chapter of this band of brothers, my brothers, both on and off the ice.
The past four years have been so incredible I could write for hours about them, but to keep this as short as possible and the tears to a minimum, I'll focus on what matters, Cardinal Hockey ... Having the unique perspective of seeing the games not from the wing, the blue line or the crease, but rather from the bench has allowed me to appreciate not only the game more, but what it takes to be successful in any aspect of life. I want to start the thank you's first and foremost with Coach Moore, Coach Egan, and Coach Reszka. I can't begin to imagine where I'd be without the opportunity you gave me four years ago, your support and patience along the way is something I feel I will be forever grateful for!
Returning to the band of brothers I mentioned earlier, I feel truly blessed to be considered among them, as scared and nervous as I was four years ago, the guys then, just as now, welcomed me with open arms. Having given up my athletic dream a while ago, I saw my future in sports off the fields and ice, and managing gave me the opportunity to still hold on to my rather aggressive competitive spirit. During every game I wished I could have been out on the ice with my guys who have become much more than just classmates or teammates. They've become roommates and best friends who I can confidently say will remain that way for years to come.
Seniors, we've been through a lot together, but through the highs and lows we have always been there for each other; AJ, Balks, Scotty, Robo, Denney, Griff, Bobby T, Ketts, G, Fusey, and Nags, thanks for everything each and every one one of you has done for me and I wish you all the best for your future!
Finally, I couldn't end this without a special thanks to the 4 (I didn’t forget you Wents) guys who have somehow been able to actually put up with living with me. Jed, Marxy, Gaff and Kev, your friendship and patience has been truly amazing! Thanks for always being there for me and even literally carrying (Thanks Bob) me along the way! I don't know what you guys are going to do next year without your dog to take care of...
In the end I suppose yes it is an unfortunate goodbye; goodbye from hockey, the rink and Saint Mary's itself. However, I know it's not goodbye from each other, from my band of brothers. Thanks again coaches, seniors, and my roomies who have played a part in making these four years as truly special as they have been for me!
