Nick Bids Farewell

Writing a Senior Salute is completely surreal to me. These past four years have gone by so quickly since I first came to Saint Mary’s University as a freshman. Looking back at my senior and junior years of high school, I did not have an idea where my place was in the world. I just could not piece together where my life was heading. I earnestly express my gratitude to this University for giving me the chance to determine the path I was destined to follow.

Since the first tour of Saint Mary’s University I knew this was the place I wanted to go to further my education.  The school has an absolutely gorgeous campus, which I wish I could have indulged a little more.  It just seems as though when living in Minnesota, Mother Nature has a mind of its own. Now, as a senior, twenty days from graduating, I have come to the realization just how different my life will be after receiving my diploma.

There are a few key topics I do want to note.  Finishing off the year taking my cross-country skiing gym class, I have discovered the skis could be rented out during the day.  This is something I would have loved to know freshman year. I have never been the outgoing type.  I typically would take a day reading a book or watching a movie over going out downtown.  Even though I was somewhat of an introvert, I came to make some amazing friends.

As a science major, being in a lab for multiple hours after classes finished was just part of daily life. This was especially true during the Analytical Chemistry I course lab. The nightmare of titrations became quite apparent following the completion of this course, but it was due to all this extra time I really got to know some great people.  It was not until junior year did I open up to other people.

I have to thank both my major and the old village for broadening my horizon.  There was never a dull moment living in the old.  Everyone I knew and came to know lived within one minute of each other. Whether it was the water backing up or the hot water shutting down for your unit, you truly had to rely on each other to make it through. There are some great memories that I will never forget coming leaving of the old village.

As of right now, I am unsure of what my future holds. I think it is safe to say that all upcoming graduates will agree. I am excited to leave Saint Mary’s and pursue my career, but I also do not want it to end.  With the year coming to a close, people are moving all around finding new jobs or pursing a higher education. Finding time with old friends will became ever more difficult, but I have high expectations for the years to follow. I honestly could not have asked for a better ending of the year on the Saint Mary’s tennis team with a win at three doubles against Gustavus.

There is a lot of uncertainty in my life currently, but all I can do is look forward to the future ahead of me. A future filled with the support of family and friends who have always been there to push me in the right direction. With so many people at my back, there is nothing left to worry about.
