Joe Bids Farewell

Plans After Graduation:
After graduation, I hope to get my foot in the door with an advertising agency and begin my career. I hope to move out of my parent’s house quickly (sorry mom) and into the Wrigleyville area. I also plan to win a summer league title with the boys.

Thank You for Family & Friends:
I cannot thank my family enough for all they have done for me, especially when it comes to soccer. Ever since I was about 8 years old and started playing travel soccer, they were always willing to drive me to practice, games, and tournaments. I remember one time with I was in middle school and wanted to quit soccer to play football, but my parents encouraged me to stick to soccer (thanks guys) because they knew I loved the game. Thank you for investing your time and money during club allowing me to travel and play all over the country. As for college, thank you helping me throughout the process of picking a school and a program. I am so thankful and appreciative that you came to so many of my games over the years and have streamed the others from home. Also, thank you Caroline for being so supportive and coming to all my games as well! It’s been fun sharing this experience with you. To all my old teammates that retired too soon, thanks for coming to games and critiquing every aspect of my game (that’s you Herrera).

Best Class You had at Saint Mary’s & Why?
The best class I had at Saint Mary’s was advertising and promotions with professor McCallum. This was my favorite class because after taking this course I realized that working for an advertising agency was something I really wanted to purse as a career path. LCT classes with Tadie were a close second though. Tadie might be the weirdest, funniest, and most interesting person I have ever met, so classes with him were a blast.

Best Sports Memory at Saint Mary’s:
The best sports memory I have had over my four years was taking a trip to England with the team. We had the opportunity to play against English teams, train with Manchester United staff at their training grounds, watch a Manchester United game at Old Trafford, and compete against the University of Oxford. Traveling all around England with a great group of guys was a trip of a lifetime.

Reflections for the Team:
Playing on this team has been one of the best experiences of my life. To the underclassmen, take advantage of every single time you get to step onto the field, because before you know it you’re a senior. Four years flies by. Just remember in the end, playing on this team is about more than just the game of soccer. Yes, winning is always the ultimate goal, but spending everyday with a group of guys that end up becoming more like brothers is something that I know I’ll remember more than any win we had over my four years. To Ray, Beers, Trussle (class), Pwaz, Ty, and the rest of the freshman class you guys are the future of the program. Grunke (Joe Dirt), Dimock, Doheny, Butch, Levy, Jimmy, Arturo and the other sophomores, you guys are the weirdest group of guys I have ever met in my life, and playing with you has been hilarious. To the juniors, Quinn, Blank, Dresh, and Dinger, you guys are basically honorary seniors, but enjoy every second of next year. Lastly, to the seniors, all 11 of you, these last 4 years have been a hell of a ride. I couldn’t imagine a better group of guys to end my soccer career with. We have had some crazy, funny, and interesting memories both on and off the field. Oh, and shout out to Brito for building character. Boys, the dream is not entirely over, at least for the Chicago guys, because were coming after another summer league championship!
