It’s pretty tough to do anything but smile when thinking about the past four years at Saint Mary’s. It has been one giant roller coaster, but absolutely one that I will never forget. It is crazy to think that after 18 years of playing my favorite sport, it is all coming to an end. At this point in my life it is very easy to see that soccer is way more than a sport. It has taught me qualities that will benefit me long into the future. Soccer is a major part of my life that has taught me more than just to be clever with my feet. It has taught me how to work with others and how to get out of tight situations, keep fighting while facing difficult situations, create friendships that will last a lifetime, and to appreciate the little things in life. Saying goodbye to an incredibly huge part of my life is going to be tough but I am excited for what my life will look like post graduation. I know that playing competitively is coming to an end but soccer will always be a part of my life.
First and foremost, I want to give thanks to God for giving me the ability to play this beautiful sport every day. He has guided me and provided me with this life changing opportunity. All glory to Him.
I would like to next thank my family, for the constant support you have given me not only with soccer but also with everything that goes on in this crazy world. I could not have been able to do this with out you. Mom, thank you for always being there to talk when I needed and for driving five stinky boys to practice after school in 6th grade. You have taught me patience, which is a virtue that has benefited me in ways that are both on and off the soccer field. Dad, thank you for always being my biggest fan. I love being able to talk to you after each game to fill you in on the details that were missed. You have taught me to fight for everything and to do everything to the best of your ability. Erik, thank you for being an incredibly supportive younger brother. I know how much you hated sitting at every single one of my tournaments. You’re the best. I can’t wait what life has in store for us in the future.
To the coaching staff, thank you for everything you have done. You have taught me so much more than just skills on the field but life traits that go way beyond the field. Coach Watkins, thank you for the last four years and helping me develop into the man that I am growing into today. I am excited for you as you move on into the next chapter of your life. Good luck with your new job. Coach Bowers, thank you for having such an impact on our team in the year that you have been here. I am excited to see what you can do with the program in the future.
To my teammates, thank you for being brothers. I have never felt closer to a team I’ve belonged to before than with you guys. I am excited for the rest of this year and the memories we will make together. Enjoy every bit of it while it lasts. Time flies when you’re having fun. I also want to thank my fellow seniors. You guys are some of the greatest people I have in my life. Thank you for being there through thick and thin in which the last four years have brought to us. I know we could not have done it without each other.
To the rest of the team, I can’t wait to see what you guys do next year. I know you guys can do big things and I am so stoked to be cheering you on from the bleachers next season. Protect the Nest boys.
