Dylan Bids Farewell
It’s hard to believe that my hockey career here at Saint Mary’s is almost over. The last four years have flown by, but the memories I have gained I will cherish for a lifetime. Ever since I started playing hockey my dream was to play college hockey and Saint May’s provided me with this opportunity, and for that I will be forever grateful.
The first group of people I would like thank are my family. My dad and mom for sacrificing so much time getting me to and from the rink, bringing me to tournaments, sitting in cold rinks to watch me play, and putting all those hours in at the rink. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you guys and I love you. My two brothers Derek and Devin from playing street hockey in the driveway or messing around on outside rinks, you guys always looked out for me and made me tougher. Thanks for all your support throughout my career and love you both. My grandparents for all the support you have given me throughout my career. I want to give a huge thank you to my Grandpa and Grandma Dock for being at most of my games since I can remember, you guys have followed me all over the place and for that I thank you and love you for. Last, but certainly not least I want to say thank you to my beautiful girlfriend Chandelle. Thank you so much for all your support and dealing with my busy schedule, also the long distance. Your support has meant so much to me and I wouldn’t be where I am today without you, thank you and love you.
The next group of people I would like to thank are the people and coaches at Saint Mary’s—and the people who got me here. First, I would like to thank all my coaches that got me to this point, from my youth coaches, to my high school, and my AAA coaches. To pick a few out to specially thank for the player I am today would be Mike Kealy, Jim Joseph, and Nick Jenkins. Now for the people at Saint Mary’s. Coach Moore, thank you for introducing me to Saint Mary’s and teaching me that hockey is just a game that teaches life lessons and that life after hockey is more important. Coach Kinne, thank you for teaching me to be a student of the game. Also, for all the work you put in to get the team ready for each weekend and for being there for someone to talk to. Coach Reszka, the man of few words. Although you do not say much I have learned when you do, I should listen because you have great things to say! Thank you for doing all you do around the rink. Coach Egan, although you were only here for my first two years, I wanted to thank you for all you did for me. Coach Sager, thank you for all you done for me and the team. Your off season work outs got me ready to go for the year and in-season workouts to keep us strong and healthy. You are a big reason why we have accomplished so much the last two years and I just want to say thank you. Jill Collum, our team mom, thank you for everything you have done for me and the guys. We all know you are there for us. Haley Denne, thank you for taking care of us and all the things you do around the rink, makes being a player a little easier and I want to wish you the best of luck after graduation.
The last group of guys I want to thank are all my teammates that I have had during my time at Saint Mary’s. You guys have made my time here a great time, from working hard in the offseason, going though try-outs together, and the times outside the rink that we had that I will always remember. Freshmen—Man it goes by fast, make sure you enjoy every second of it and to remember to always play for each other. Sophomores- You guys are a great group, you know what it takes and I am excited to see where you guys end up in a couple years. Juniors—We have been through the most together and I am going to miss coming to the rink with you guys and spending time with you guys. Hopefully we can go on one last ride together here. Seniors/roommates—Jon and Joe we have had a blast together these last four years, crazy to think we are the only ones left from the freshman class, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. We have a blast together and times that I will never forget. You guys are lifelong friends, and I am excited to see were each of you ends up in life. To a few guys that I have shared a little extra with. Bergs—You are true friend with an okay karaoke voice. We have had some great times together and always remember to stay under 200. Phil or Carl—We’ve had some times buddy that I will never forget. I wish you the best in the future and I am glad I had a privilege of playing with a 5’7” goalie as good as you. Jude—one of the roomies, you were like a little brother to me, buddy. We had some great times living with each other, I just want to wish you the best in hockey and in life. Johnny Mo, or I should say now Coach Morales—it is crazy to think the game can get taken away from you that fast, but your attitude towards it has been truly inspiring not just in the game of hockey but in life as well. You are truly one of a kind, love you buddy. To some old men, or should I say Jed, Michael, Bob and Gaffy—You guys were a blast last year and I’ll never forget what you guys did for this program. Jed and Michael thanks for being there for me when I was having a tough time and needed to talk to someone, you guys are true friends.
I just wanted to say thank you one more time to all of my teammates, coaches, family, and friends who got me to this point—and to Saint Mary’s University for allowing me to have gained these memories that will last a life time.
