• FOR THE RECORD: The Vikings head into the Sugar Loaf Classic on the heels of a 1-26 season a year ago, including an 0-8 showing in the Midwest Conference.
• TOUGH SEASON: Lawrence enters the 2023 season in the midst of a 22-match losing streak. The Vikings dropped their dropped their first four matches of the season, before collecting their lone win of 2022, a 3-2 victory over Finlandia on Sept. 9. The Vikings came up empty over their final 22 contests following that win.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Lawrence played 17 of its 27 matches last season on the road, going 1-16. The Vikings finished the year 0-10 on their home court at Alexander Gymnasium.
• ON THE ATTACK: Aliana Butler-Gray and Kylie Naylor each finished the 2022 season eclipsing the 100-kill plateau. Butler-Gray led the way for the Vikings, finished with 157 kills (1.78 kps), while Naylor chipped in 143 kills (1.63 kps). … Butler-Gray recorded two matches with double-digit kills, including a season-high 23-kill effort against Beloit on Oct. 8. … Naylor also posted two 10+ kill performances a year ago, highlighted by a season-best 15 kills against Finlandia on Sept. 9.
• GIVING AN ASSIST: Marife Entenza and Dana Mestey shared the setting duties a year ago, with Entenza owning a team-high 254 assists (2.99 aps), with Mestey close behind with 242 helpers (5.38 aps). … Mestey owned five matches of 20 or more assists — including a season-high 35-assist showing against Finlandia on Sept. 9. Entenza, meanwhile, finished the year with three matches of 20 or more assists, including a season-best 30-assisst effort against Beloit on Oc.t 8.
• DOUBLING UP: Entenza and Mestey both finished the 2022 campaign with a team-leading five assist-dig double-doubles, while Butler-Gray picked up one kill-dig double-double, posting 23 kills and a season-high 20 digs against Beloit on Oct. 8.
• SERVING UP ACES: Lawrence finished 2022 with seven players who recorded 10 or more service aces. Entenza led the way for the Vikings, serving up 21 aces, followed by Callista Lo with 14, Daphne Piotrowski with 13, and Butler-Gray with 12. Mestey, Naylor, and Hillirie McLaughlin all chipped in 10 aces.
• DIGGING IT: Piotrowski recorded a team-high 206 digs last season. She was one of six players with 100 or more digs in 27 matches. Entenza was second on the squad with 171 digs, followed by Kali Pfannerstill (131), Naylor (131), Butler-Gray (115), and Mestey (109).
CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS: The Vikings played just two match extended to a fifth set last season. Lawrence defeated Finlandia 3-2 on Sept. 9, while falling to Rockford in five sets on Sept. 17. … Twenty-two of Lawrence’s 26 losses a year ago were 3-0 sweeps — including their first nine setbacks and eight of their last nine. … Lawrence delivered a season-high 48 kills in its five-set win over Finlandia on Sept. 9.
