Kyle Nelson is the assistant men's and women’s soccer coach at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, a position he has held since the beginning of the 2018-19 academic school year.
Nelson was most recently a full-time club soccer coach with the Johnston Urbandale Soccer Club (JUSC) and Sporting Iowa Soccer Academy in Des Moines, Iowa. Prior to his time in Des Moines, Nelson was the top assistant with the Wartburg College women’s soccer team, where he helped lead the Knights to a 38-9-7 record over two-and-half seasons—including two trips to the NCAA National Championships and a 2011 IIAC Championship.
Before his time at Wartburg, Nelson was the head boys’ soccer coach at Decorah (Iowa) High School, leading the Vikings to a 75-13-0 overall record in five seasons—including a program-best third-place finish at the 2010 Boys’ Iowa State Soccer Tournament. Nelson’s other coaching experience includes two years as an assistant with the Luther College men’s soccer team and seven years as a youth coach for the Decorah United Soccer Club.
Nelson was a four-year letter winner for the Luther men’s soccer team and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physical Education from Luther in 2008.
