Adam McDermott is currently the assistant men’s basketball coach at Saint Mary's University.
Prior to his arrival in 2025, McDermott coached at Truman State University (NCAA Division II) in Kirksville, Missouri, for the 2024-25 season. He previously served as an assistant coach at Coe College (NCAA Division III) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, during the 2023-24 season.
A Cedar Rapids native and Xavier High School alum, McDermott brings a well-rounded background as both a coach and a former standout player. His collegiate playing career began at the University of North Dakota, where he made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2015-16, averaging 6.7 points per game, hitting 56 three-pointers, and scoring a career-high 28 points in a win over Idaho State.
He transferred to the University of Northern Iowa in 2016, redshirting his first year and appearing in games during the 2017-18 season. McDermott then finished his playing career at Coe College, where he became one of the top players in the American Rivers Conference. He earned Second-Team All-Conference honors in 2018-19 and followed that up with a standout senior season in 2019-20, earning First-Team All-Conference and Defensive Player of the Year honors, the first in Coe program history to receive the league’s DPOY award. That season, he averaged 13.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.0 made three-pointers, and 1 steal per game.
McDermott is known for his leadership, competitive edge, and deep understanding of the game, shaped by experience across multiple NCAA divisions and a successful playing career.
