The Cardinals raced out to a four-point, 29-25, halftime advantage, but scored just 22 points in the second half in falling to Hamline 64-51 Wednesday. … St. Catherine, meanwhile, picked up its second straight win, racing out to a  15-point first-half lead, then holding on down the stretch to beat Carleton 64-61 Wednesday.

Last Meeting: St. Catherine collected a pair of conference wins over the Cardinals a year ago. St. Catherine's Molly Peterson pulled down a rebound off her own missed shot and scored the game's first basket 30 seconds in — and the Wildcats never looked back, leading from start to finish en route to a 79-62 conference win over the Cardinals on Jan. 9, 2008 in St. Paul, Minn. In the teams' rematch at the SMU Gym on Feb. 13, Jess Weisbrod scored a game-high 16 points, but it was not enough, as St. Catherine held off the Cardinals down the stretch en route to a 74-66 decision.

Cardinal Notes: Jess Miller (Carver, Minn.) scored a game-high 16 points and added 10 rebounds to record her first collegiate double-double Wednesday vs. Hamline. Miller had come one rebound short of that same feat on Monday vs. Carleton, when the sophomore netted 10 points and added nine boards. … Michelle Carne (Escanaba, Mich.), who scored a career-high 15 points vs. Carleton Monday, chipped in 12 points against the Pipers Wednesday. …  Cherie Kulig (Independence, Wis.) also scored in double figures vs. the Pipers Wednesday tossing in 11 points. It was her second-straight double-digit performance and the fifth time this season she has scored 10 or more points. … Miller and Kulig lead the team in scoring, boasting 10.9 and 9.4 ppg averages, respectively. …  Carne's team-high eight points vs. St. Thomas on Dec. 10  was the first time since Alysse Coates and Jess Weisbrod scored eight points vs. Carleton vs. Carleton on Feb. 9, 2008 — and just the sixth time in their last 84 games — that SMU failed to have a double-figure scorer. … With their loss to Hamline, SMU's season-opening losing streak climbed 10 straight, and left the Cardinals searching for their first win since a 63-48 win over St. Olaf on Feb. 2 — a span of 17 straight games (SMU closed out the 2007-08 season with seven consecutive losses). … Jesa Hall (Glenwood City, Wis.)  enjoyed a career afternoon against Saint Benedict last Saturday, scoring 15 points on five 3-pointers. … Wednesday's 29-25 halftime lead marked the first time this season the Cardinals have led at the intermission. Unfortunately, their 22-point second-half output equaled their second-half season-low. … The Cardinals put up a season-high 62 field-goal attempts vs. Hamline. SMU also posted season-highs in rebounds (43), assists (16), steals (8) and blocked shots (2). …  The Cardinals' loss at Hamline dropped SMU to 0-8 on the road this season. SMU is now 1-19 in their last 20 road games, with their lone road win a 57-54 victory over St. Olaf on Jan. 5, 2008.

Wildcat Notes:
After opening the season with five straight wins — including a perfect 2-0 run through the season-opening Alverno Tournament — the Wildcats dropped three straight, a streak they snapped with a 78-72 win over St. Thomas on Monday. … Prior to Wednesday's 64-61 win vs. Carleton, the Wildcats had scored 70 or more points in all six of their wins this season. On the flip side, the Wildcats have failed to score 60 or more points in any of their three losses. … All three of St. Catherine's losses have been in conference play — St. Catherine finished a perfect 3-0 vs. nonconference opponents this season, beating the University of Dubuque (79-73), Alverno (74-56) and Nebraska Wesleyan (77-73). … Laura Kalbfell tossed in 13 points to lead St. Catherine in scoring vs. Careton Wednesday. It was the third straight game in which the sophomore has led the team in scoring. … Kalbfell is one of three St. Catherine players averaging in double figures, boasting a team-best 16.5 ppg average. Brooke Hakinson (12.4 ppg) and Molly Peterson (12.4 ppg) are the other two. … St. Catherine has outscored its opponents 335-272 in the first half, but have been outscored 372-366 in the second.
