: The Cardinals put an end to their five-game losing streak in dramatic fashion Saturday, as Eric Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) scored with 0.4 seconds remaining in overtime to lift SMU to a 2-1 win over UW-River Falls at the SMU Ice Arena. … UW-Stout, meanwhile, also beat the Falcons in its last game, dropping UW-River Falls 3-2 on Friday.

Last Meeting: The Blue Devils scored 10 unanswered goals — five in each of the first two periods — and rolled to a 12-2 nonconference win over the Cardinals last Tuesday.

A Year Ago: Andy Roberts (Rochester, Minn.) and Kevin Eidsmo scored goals less than a minute apart early in the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie and sending SMU to the 4-2 victory. It was the first win in four tries against a nationally ranked opponent for the Cardinals.

All-Time Series Record: The Cardinals own a 7-4-0 record against UW-Stout all time.

Cardinal Notes: With their 2-1 win over UW-River Falls Saturday, the Cardinals put an end to their season-high five-game losing streak. The win was also SMU's first vs. the NCHA this season, snapping a streak of seven straight losses vs. the NCHA, dating back to a 4-2 win over UW-Stout on Jan. 22, 2008. … Saturday's win over UW-River Falls was SMU's fourth overtime game this season. The Cardinals are 2-1-1 in those four games, with wins over Concordia (6-5) and UW-River Falls (2-1), a 7-6 loss to defending MIAC regular-season champion Hamline and a 3-3 tie vs. Concordia. … Ten of SMU's 14 games have been against nationally ranked opponents. SMU's first four games were nonconference games against No. 15 St. Scholastica, No. 8 UW-Superior, No. 6 UW-Stevens Point and No. 12 UW-Eau Claire, while conference opponents Gustavus and Hamline were ranked No. 14 and No. 13, respectively. It was the third time in eight appearances that the Cardinal freshman has posted 40 of more saves. …  The Cardinals have been outscored 28-6 in the first period, 28-13 in the second period and 22-9 in the third. … UW-River Falls scored its lone goal in the first period, marking the 13th time in 14 games that the Cardinals' opponent has scored first. With the exception of the Nov. 17, 2008 USCHO.com poll, Stout has been ranked in the top 15 since the Nov. 13, 2006 poll. Stout made their first appearance in the poll on Nov. 27, 2000, when they received one vote, then moved up to 10th the following week. The highest ranking Stout has achieved was second in the Jan. 29, 2007 poll. … Derek Hanson leads the Blue Devils in scoring, boasting a team-best 12 goals and 29 points. He also leads the team with 17 assists. … Scott Motz (23 points), Nick Klaren (21) and Joel Gaulrapp (21) have also eclipsed the 20-point barrier. … Motz recorded his second hat trick of the season with three goals vs. SMU in the teams' first meeting last Tuesday.
