: The Cardinals, who put an end to their five-game losing streak in dramatic fashion Saturday — as Eric Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) scored with 0.4 seconds remaining in overtime to lift SMU to a 2-1 win over UW-River Falls at the SMU Ice Arena — closed out their nonconference season with a 6-1 loss to seventh-ranked UW-Stout Monday … St. Olaf, meanwhile, split their conference series against Hamline last weekend, dropping the first game 6-2, then winning the rematch 4-1.

A Year Ago: The Oles picked up a pair of wins over the Cardinals last season, rallying from a 2-0 first-period deficit to beat the Cardinals 5-2 in Northfield, Minn., then followed that up by getting the game-winning by off the stick of Nick Stalock eight minutes into the third period of a 2-1 St. Olaf win at the SMU Ice Arena.

Cardinal Notes: Seven of the last eight meetings between SMU and St. Olaf have been decided by one goal — with last year's 5-2 St. Olaf win the lone exception. … Monday's loss to UW-Stout was the 11th time in 15 games that the Cardinals have faced a nationally ranked team. SMU's first four games were nonconference games against No. 15 St. Scholastica, No. 8 UW-Superior, No. 6 UW-Stevens Point and No. 12 UW-Eau Claire, while conference opponents Gustavus and Hamline were ranked No. 14 and No. 13, respectively. St. Norbert entered its Jan. 10 game vs. SMU as the nation's fourth-ranked team, while UW-Stout is currently ranked seventh. … With their 2-1 win over UW-River Falls last Saturday, the Cardinals put an end to their season-high five-game losing streak. The win was also SMU's first vs. the NCHA this season, snapping a streak of seven straight losses vs. the NCHA, dating back to a 4-2 win over UW-Stout on Jan. 22, 2008. … Saturday's win over UW-River Falls was SMU's fourth overtime game this season. The Cardinals are 2-1-1 in those four games, with wins over Concordia (6-5) and UW-River Falls (2-1), a 7-6 loss to defending MIAC regular-season champion Hamline and a 3-3 tie vs. Concordia. … UW-River Falls' one goal scored vs. SMU Saturday snapped a string of four straight games in which the Cardinals had allowed five or more goals. … The Falcons' single goal was also the fewest allowed by the Cardinals since a 3-1 win over St. Scholastica on Jan. 26, 2007. … On the flip side, SMU's single goal vs. UW-Stout on Monday — the first collegiate tally by Tommy Healy (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) — marked the 10th time this season the Cardinals have been held to two goals or less. … Eric Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) scored the Cardinals' game-winner vs. UW-River Falls, while Mike Glaesmer (Traverse City, Mich.) netted SMU's first goal with 1:55 remaining in regulation. … Glaesmer's goal moved him into a tie with Steve Murphy (Anchorage, Alaska) for the team lead in goals with five. … Four of Glaesmer's five goals came vs. Hamline on Dec. 6, when the SMU sophomore recorded his first collegiate four-goal game. It was the first four-goal game by a SMU player since Nov. 1, 2002, when Al Schumacher tallied four goals in SMU's season-opening 9-3 win over Finlandia. … Anthony Bohn (Spring Hill, Fla.), meanwhile, boasts a team-best nine assists and 10 points — one more point than both Glaesmer and Murphy. … Scott Pederson (Lake Villa, Ill.) stopped 40 of the Falcons' 41 shots last Friday. It was the third time in eight appearances that the Cardinal freshman has posted 40 of more saves. Pederson followed that up with a 39-save effort in Monday's 6-1 loss to UW-Stout. …  The Cardinals have been outscored 30-6 in the first period, 31-13 in the second period and 23-10 in the third. … UW-Stout scored the only two goals of the first period Monday, marking the 14th time in 15 games that the Cardinals' opponent has scored first. A first-period tally by Andy Roberts (Rochester, Minn.) vs. Lake Forest on Jan. 9 is the only time this season the Cardinals have scored first. … The Blue Devils' 12 goals in the teams' first meeting on Jan. 6 were the most allowed by SMU since giving up 12 in a 12-4 loss to St. Thomas on Jan. 25, 1990.

Ole Notes: The Oles' 4-1 win over Hamline last Saturday snapped the team's season-high three-game losing streak. … St. Olaf has scored two goals of less in four of its five losses. … The Oles' 4-2 loss to UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 3 snapped their season-best seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1). … Dylan Mueller leads the team in goals (11) and points (22), while Isak Tranvik has a team-leading 13 assists and is second in points iwht 20. … The Oles have gotten goals from 17 different players and points from 25. … Nick Krauss and Ben Leis have shared the goaltending duties, combining for a 2.69 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage. … St. Olaf is 7-1-1 when scoring first, and just 3-5-0 when its opponent scores first. … Seventeen of the Oles' 56 goals have come on the power play. St. Olaf has also netted three shorthanded goals.
