: The Cardinals picked up three of a possible four conference points last weekend against St. Olaf. SMU rallied from a two-goal third-period deficit to earn a 3-3 tie vs. the Oles Friday at the SMU Ice Arena, then scored two more third-period goals to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Cardinals to a 3-1 win in the rematch in Northfield, Minn. … Bethel, meanwhile, swept Hamline in its two-game conference series last weekend. Bethel got goals from five different players in a 5-2 win in St. Paul, Minn., on Friday, then got a 30-save performance from Beth Spurrier in blanking the Pipers 4-0 Saturday in Blaine, Minn.

A Year Ago: Bethel swept the teams' conference series a year ago. Beth Spurrier kicked out all 38 SMU shots, leading the Royals to a 3-0 conference win on Feb. 8 at the SMU Ice Arena. In the rematch in Blaine, Minn., a night later, the Cardinals' bid of an eighth straight trip to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs was dealt another blow Saturday evening, as Bethel completed its first-ever conference sweep of the Cardinals with a 6-3 victory.

Cardinal Notes: SMU's 3-1 victory over St. Olaf Saturday moved the Cardinals to 2-1-1 in their last four games. … Friday's tie vs. St. Olaf was the Cardinals' fourth overtime game of the season — and the first one to end in a tie. … SMU got goals from three different players in Saturday's 3-1 win vs. St. Olaf. … Katie Cachey (Orland Park, Ill.) netted her sixth goal of the season vs. St. Olaf on Friday, moving her into a tie with Ingrid Klockars (Wheaton, Ill.) for the team lead. … Cachey also leads in the team in points, while sharing the team's assist (3) lead with Alex Braun (Darwin, Minn.), Ashley Mileykovsky (Northbrook, Ill.) and Francie Steger (Chicago, Ill.). …  Klockars scored two goals vs. St. Catherine on Jan. 16. It was Klockars' first two-goal game of the season and second of her career. … SMU's five game-winning goals have come from five different players — including Stevie Fiek (Rochester, Minn.), who netted the game-winner vs. St. Olaf Saturday. … SMU scored a power play goal in each game vs. St. Olaf, giving the Cardinals 12 power play goals for the season. SMU scored just nine power play goals all season last year. … St. Olaf's one goal last Friday equaled the fewest allowed by SMU this season and the fewest since the Cardinals battled Hamline to a 1-1 tie on Jan. 19, 2008. … SMU's 5-0 loss to St. Catherine on Jan. 17 marked the fourth time this season the Cardinals have been held without a goal. SMU has been held to one goal or less in eight of their nine losses. … SMU's 3-1 win at St. Olaf Saturday was just the second road victory of the season for the Cardinals, who are now 4-15-2 on the road in their last two seasons. … SMU has been outscored 17-7 in the game's opening 20 minutes.

Royal Notes: With last weekend's sweep of Hamline, the Royals extended their unbeaten streak to five straight (4-0-1). … Six of Bethel's 16 games have gone into overtime. The Royals have not won an OT game this season, going 0-3-3. … All six of Bethel's losses have been decided by two goals or less. … The Royals have failed to score more than two goals in a loss this season. In fact, Bethel has been outscored 14-6 in those six losses. … Beth Spurrier, a three-time All-MIAC selection, stopped all 30 shots she faced in recording her second shutout of the season. Spurrier boasts a 1.60 goals-against-average and a .942 save percentage. … Bethany Murphy leads the team in goals (9) and points (18). She is one of five Bethel players with 10 or more points. … Anna Carlson is second in the team in points with 15 — all 15 have been assists. … Fourteen of the Royals' 43 goals have come on the power play. Bethel has also scored four shorthanded goals. … The Royals are 4-2-1 when scoring first and 3-4-2 when their opponent scores first.
