A Year Ago: Bethel swept the teams' conference series a year ago. Beth Spurrier kicked out all 38 SMU shots, leading the Royals to a 3-0 conference win on Feb. 8 at the SMU Ice Arena. In the rematch in Blaine, Minn., a night later, the Cardinals' bid of an eighth straight trip to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs was dealt another blow Saturday evening, as Bethel completed its first-ever conference sweep of the Cardinals with a 6-3 victory.

Cardinal Notes: With their loss to Bethel Friday, SMU dropped to 2-2-1 in its last five games. … The Cardinals have held their last two opponents to two goals or less, going 1-1-0 in those two games — a 3-1 win over St. Olaf last Saturday, and Fridays 2-1 loss vs. Bethel. … SMU has been held to one goal or less in nine of its 10 losses. … Last Friday's tie vs. St. Olaf was the Cardinals' fourth overtime game of the season — and the first one to end in a tie. … SMU got goals from three different players in Saturday's 3-1 win vs. St. Olaf. … Dana Kreuser (Maplewood, Minn.) accounted for SMU's lone goal vs. the Royals Friday. … Madeline Lenz (White Bear Lake, Minn.) stopped 40 of the Royals' 42 shots Friday, marking the second time in 11 starts that the SMU freshman has stopped 40 or more shots. … Katie Cachey (Orland Park, Ill.) netted her sixth goal of the season vs. St. Olaf last Friday, moving her into a tie with Ingrid Klockars (Wheaton, Ill.) for the team lead. … Cachey also leads in the team in points, while sharing the team's assist (3) lead with six other Cardinals. …  Klockars scored two goals vs. St. Catherine on Jan. 16. The Royals have not won an OT game this season, going 0-3-3. … All six of Bethel's losses have been decided by two goals or less. … The Royals have failed to score more than two goals in a loss this season. In fact, Bethel has been outscored 14-6 in those six losses. … Beth Spurrier, a three-time All-MIAC selection, stopped 23 of the 24 shots she faced Friday vs. SMU.
