WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team looks to get its offense on track Wednesday night, as the Cardinals — who were shut out by Macalester Friday 1-0 at Ochrymowycz Field — play host to St. Olaf in a 7 p.m. home Minnesota Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference contest.

Last Action: The Cardinals surrendered the game's only goal 20 minutes into the second half, as Macalester handed SMU its second straight shutout loss, 1-0 Friday evening at Ochrymowycz Field. St. Olaf, meanwhile, got a goal from Nathan Swenson 10 minutes into the second half to lift the Oles to a 1-0 nonconference win over UW-Platteville Sunday in Northfield, Minn.

Saint Mary's Cardinal Notes: SMU GK Jon Szafranski (Barrington, Ill.) stopped 12 Macalester shots in last Friday's 1-0 loss to the Scots. The 12-save effort marked the fourth time in the Cardinals' last five games that Szafranski has stopped 10 or more shots. … Szafranski enters today's game with a 1.61 goals-against-average and an .815 save percentage. He has now stopped 88 shots this season, pushing his school-record career saves total to 393. … Steve Boussie (Troy, Mich.) and Ryan Rademacher (La Crosse Wis.) share the team lead in goals with three each, while Boussie also leads the Cardinals in assists (3) and points (9). …  SMU's 1-1 OT tie vs. Gustavus on Sept. 29 was the Cardinals' second straight overtime game and the third time in the last five games SMU went extra time. … SMU has played three overtime games in each of the last two seasons and are now 4-0-3 in their last seven overtime games and have not lost an OT game since a 3-2 setback vs. Macalester on Sept. 22, 2006. … Both of the Cardinals' ties have come on their home field — and both have been 1-1 decisions. … SMU's loss to Macalester was its second straight setback and the fourth time this season the Cardinals have been shut out. … SMU has scored seven of its 11 goals in the first half, while the Cardinals' opponents have netted 12 of their 20 goals in the second half. … SMU has surrendered three penalty kick goals this season. The Cardinals, meanwhile, have not attempted a PK this year.

St. Olaf Ole Notes: With Sunday's win over UW-Platteville, St. Olaf improved to 6-0-1 against nonconference opponents this season. … Sunday's win was also the 10th of the season for the Oles, who have now won 10 or more games in three straight seasons and 11 times under head coach Kurt Anderson. … Last Friday's conference loss to St. Thomas snapped the Oles' four-game winning streak, a streak that started following St. Olaf's first loss of the season, a 2-1 overtime decision to Concordia on Sept. 26. … The Tommies' four goals were the most allowed by St. Olaf this season — and three goals shy of the seven the Oles had allowed in their first 11 games combined. … Friday's loss also knocked St. Olaf from the No. 16 spot in the NSCAA Top 25. The Oles fell to No. 21 in this week's poll. … Nate Swenson's game-winning goal against UW-Platteville was his team-leading ninth of the season. Swenson also leads the team with 21 points while john Zietlow, who is second on the team in points with 13, boasts a team-best nine assists. … GK Alex Kuehl enters today's game with a 0.98 goals-against-average and a .761 save percentage. He has started 11 of the team's 13 games and has recorded four shutouts. Backup Harry Ullmann has not allowed a goal in two starts, stopping all six shots he's faced. … Eight of the 11 goals allowed by St. Olaf have come after halftime.
