WINONA, Minn. – Saint Mary's University women's soccer coach Eric Zimmerman isn't a doctor, may he may want to consider it as a second profession after prescribing just what the perfect tonic for his ailing Saint Mary's University women's soccer team's offense.
Ripon College.
The Cardinals' offense came into Sunday's nonconference game against Ripon a bit under the weather – having failed to net a goal in back-to-back losses to Gustavus and Concordia.
The Cardinals exited Ochrymowycz Field feeling much better – thanks to a pair of first-half goals, as SMU snapped a two-game winning streak – and end that two-game goalless funk – with a 2-1 victory over the Red Hawks.
Amy Sibik (Onalaska, Wis.) paced the Cardinal offense, picking up an assist on the game-winning tally - Kelsey Schneider's (Portland, Ore.) first collegiate goal – in the game's 24th minute, then netting her team-leading 11th goal of the season five minutes later to give SMU all the offense it would need.
The Red Hawks cut the gap to one on Rachel Martzahl's tally in the 64th minute, but that was as close as Ripon would get, as SMU improved to 6-4-1 and is now off until next Sunday, when the Cardinals play host to UW-River Falls in a 3 p.m. nonconference contest at Ochrymowycz Field.
