WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team, coming off a pair of 2-1 decisions against UW-Eau Claire — one win and one loss — kick off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday, playing host to Hamline in a 7 p.m. game at the SMU Ice Arena.

Last Action: The Cardinals gave up a goal in the last three minutes in falling to UW-Eau Claire 2-1 last Friday at the SMU Ice Arena, before turning the tables on the Blugolds in Saturday's rematch in Eau Claire, Wis., scoring with 39 seconds remaining en route to a 2-1 victory. Hamline, meanwhile, also collected a nonconference split last weekend, posting a 6-3 Friday decision at Finlandia, before falling in the rematch 2-0 on Saturday.

A Year Ago: The Cardinals scored five goals in both meetings with the Pipers a year ago, coming away with 5-3 and 5-2 victories.

December 5, 2008: Nicole Olson (New Brighton, Minn.) scored two goals as the Cardinals scored the game's first three goals and rolled to a 5-3 win over Hamline at Drake Arena in St. Paul, Minn.

December 6, 2008:
Katie Cachey(Orland Park, Ill..) scored back-to-back goals five minutes apart in the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie and sending SMU to its second straight victory over the Pipers, a 5-2 decision at the SMU Ice Arena.

Ingrid Klockars (Wheaton, Ill.) scored both of SMU's goals in Saturday's 2-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire. Klockars has now had one two-goal game in each of her three seasons as a Cardinal. … Kaye Collier (Hibbing, Minn.) finished with 19 saves to earn her first collegiate win in goal. … Brianna Drude (Oakdale, Minn.) scored her first goal as a Cardinal to account for SMU's scoring in last Friday's 2-1 loss to the Blugolds. … Nicole Olson (New Brighton, Minn.) scored two of SMU's four goals vs. Lake Forest in their season-opening 5-4 loss on Oct. 31. Olson's six career collegiate goals have come via three two-goal games. … Jamie Henneman (Countryside, Ill.) leads the team in points with three, and shares the team lead in assists (2) with Sheree Haslemore (Gore, New Zealand), while Klockars and Olson are the team-leader in goals (2). … Collier enters today's game vs. the Pipers boasting a 2.33 goals-against-average and a .926 save percentage in three starts. … SMU has scored four of its seven goals this season in the first period, while SMU's opponents have netted 10 of their 12 goals in the second and third periods combined. … Saturday's win over the Blugolds snapped SMU's season-opening three-game losing streak. … With their 5-4 loss to Lake Forest on Oct. 31, the Cardinals fell to 0-2-1 in their last three season openers, and have not won its season opener since the 2005-06 season, when the Cardinals dropped UW-Eau Claire 5-1 in Terry Mannor's first game as SMU's head coach.
