Last Action:
The Cardinals put an end to their five-game losing streak in impressive fashion, boasting five players in double figures en route to an 84-74 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Hamline Wednesday evening in St. Paul, Minn. … St. Olaf, meanwhile, fell behind by 29 in the first half and never recovered in falling to Gustavus 74-55 in a conference game in St. Peter, Minn.

Last Meeting: Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) poured in a game-high 30 points, while Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) finished with 14, but it was not enough, as St. Olaf used a balanced offensive attack in handing SMU a 71-67 conference setback at the SMU Gym.

A Year Ago: The Cardinals and Pipers split their season series a year ago, with each team winning on the other's home court. The Cardinals had four players score in double figures — including a game- and career-high 31 points from Will Wright — as SMU rolled to an 89-75 win over St. Olaf on Jan. 5 in Northfield, Minn. In the rematch on Feb. 2 in Winona, Minn., Wright was held to just eight points, and SMU's offense struggled to get on track, as the Oles cruised to a 58-49  conference victory at the SMU Gym.

Cardinal Notes: Wednesday's win over Hamline was the Cardinals' third straight victory over the Pipers. … The Cardinals' 84-point outburst equaled the team's season high (SMU scored 84 in an 84-70 victory over MacMurray on Nov. 22). … Two of SMU's two three offensive outputs have been vs. Hamline. SMU netted 80 vs. the Pipers in an 80-72 victory in the teams' first meeting on Jan. 7. … SMU knocked down a season-best 37 free throws vs. the Pipers. The Cardinals were 37-for-47 from the line. The 47 free throw attempts were also a season high. … Bradley Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) scored a game- and career-high 23 points vs. the Pipers Wednesday. It was the second time in his career that Bruno has eclipsed the 20-point barrier. … Bruno was one of five SMU players to score in double figures vs. Hamline. Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) added 18 points, while Eric Burroughs (St. Paul, Minn.), Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) and Pat Freeman (Champlin, Minn.) added 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively. … Wright, who boasts the team's top seven offensive performances of the season — including a season- and career-best 41 points vs. MacMurray on Nov. 22 — has now scored 10 or more points in 20 of the Cardinals' 22 games this season and has scored in double figures in 42 of his 47 collegiate games. … Wright and Bruno also share the tam lead with two double-doubles each. Wright boasted 22 points and 10 rebounds vs. Winona State, and 41 points and 10 boasts vs. MacMurray, while Bruno posted 22 points and 10 boasts vs. Hamline and 12 points and 10 rebounds vs. Macalester. … With his 18 points vs. Hamline, Holland has reached double figures in 26 of the team's last 29 games. … Bruno's 23-point effort vs. Hamline marked the 16th time in SMU's 22 games in which SMU boasted at least one 20-point scorer. … Wright and Holland enter tonight's game averaging in double figures, with Wright boasting a team-best 18.6 ppg average, while Holland is at 16.1 ppg. The two are also ranked No. 3 and No. 4 in the MIAC in scoring, respectively. Wright is averaging 17.7 ppg in 17 conference contests, while Holland is scoring at a 16.3 ppg clip. … Holland is third in the conference in free throw percentage (89-for-101, .881 %), while Wright is No. 2 in steals (31, 1.82 spg). … As a team, the Cardinals rank No. 1 in the MIAC in offensive rebounds (11.18 orpg). … Brad Knights (Plainfield, Wis.) has missed just one free throw in his three-year collegiate career. Fueled by a 9-for-9 effort this year, Knights is 19-for-20 in his SMU career. … The Cardinals' 70-65 win over Macalester on Jan. 21 was their first overtime game since the 2002-03 season, when SMU lost to UST 65-62. SMU's last overtime win came on Dec. 6, 2000, when the Cardinals posted an 80-70 win over St. Olaf.

Ole Notes: Wednesday's loss at Gustavus was the seventh straight for the Oles, who have not won since a two-point, 68-66 conference win over Concordia on Jan. 19. … The Oles were held to a season-low 17 first-half points vs. the Gusties Wednesday. … Nate Krosschell scored a season-high 22 points vs. GAC — it was the second straight game and seventh time this season the Oles have boasted a 20-point scorer. … Bobby Fong, who missed Wednesday's game vs. GAC with an injury, is averaging a team-best 12.8 ppg.
