A Year Ago: The Cardinals and Blazers split their two-game conference series on Nov. 16-17 in St. Joseph, Minn. The Cardinals raced out to a 3-0 lead, then held off the Blazers
4-3 in the first game. Despite holding a 41-21 advantage in shots on goal, the Cardinals came up empty each and every time, as the Blazers got a 41-save effort from goalie Amanda Plumm in handing SMU a
1-0 setback.
Playoff Picture: With their win Friday night, SMU moved into a tie with Saint Benedict for sixth place in the MIAC standings, one point behind St. Catherine, who enters Saturday's game holding the fifth and final MIAC playoff berth. A win Saturday — and a St. Catherine loss — and the Cardinals will earn their third conference playoff appearance in the last four years.
Cardinal Notes: With its 4-1 win over Saint Benedict on Friday, SMU snapped a four-game winless streak (0-3-1). The Cardinals also improved to 4-5-2 in their last 11 games. …
