ST. PAUL, Minn. — On an individual basis, Saint Mary's University swimming and diving coach Eric Lindquist like what he saw Friday evening in the Cardinals dual meets against Macalester.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, there weren't enough of those stellar individual efforts to lift SMU to the team victory, as Macalester cruised to a pair of wins, beating the Saint Mary's men 111-82 and the women 132-95.

“Individually, we got some very good performances,” said Lindquist, whose team is right back in action on Saturday, taking part in the Macalester Invitational. “There just weren't enough of them to get us over the hump. We knew it was going to be a couple of close duals, unfortunately, we came up a little short.”

Brandon Matis (Blaine, Minn.) picked up a pair of firsts for the SMU men, winning the 100 freestyle (53.8) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.01), while Andrew Noyes (Eden Prairie, Minn.) swept both diving events, winning the one-meter with a score of 179.35, and the three-meter with a 169.65 total. Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa) chipped in a first in the 200 freestyle (1:55.53) and a second in the 100 backstroke (57.89).

On the women's side, Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.) touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.68), and was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:30.01. Nikki Farmer (Medford, Wis.) was first in the 500 freestyle (6:00.26), with Liz Flynn (Mahtomedi, Minn.) adding seconds in the one-meter (189.15) and three-meter diving (200.50). Lisa Lucas (Gunnison, Colo.) also collected a pair of seconds in the 100 freestyle (1:01.55) and the 1000 freestyle (12:01.62).
