Box Score WINONA, Minn. — For Saint Mary's University men's hockey coach, Saturday's season finale against Gustavus looked eerily similar to Friday's.

And that wasn't a good thing for the Cardinals' head coach.

The Gusties who scored the game's first five goals in handing SMU a 5-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback in Friday's first game of the teams' two-game series, picked up right where they left off on Saturday, racing out to a 2-0 first-period lead.

And the Gusties were just getting their offensive juggernaut cranked up.

Gustavus scored three straight powerplay goals in the second period and added another goal in the third period, as the Gusties completed the MIAC sweep with a 6-0 victory at the SMU Ice Arena.

“We just never got anything going,” said SMU coach Bill Moore, whose team closed out its season 1-15-0 in the MIAC and 1-23-1 overall. “We didn't have a lot of energy from the start and Gustavus just took it to us.”

The Gusties got all the scoring they would need just 1:33 into the opening period, as Ross Ring-Jarvi netted his14th goal of the season. Joe Welch would make it 2-0 before the first period ended, and GAC took advantage of five second-period SMU penalties, scoring three times in a four-minute span to take a five-goal lead into the game's final 20 minutes.

Rory Dynan closed out the scoring for the Gusties, beating SMU goalie Jason Horstman (Faribault, Minn.) at 10:23 of the third period.

Horstman finished with 41 saves — including 14 in the first period — for the Cardinals, while GAC's Josh Swartout stopped all nine SMU shots in recording the shutout.
